Had a buddy who emailed this to me a moment ago, and thought he summed all the situations up nicely. Basically he is right, there is no leadership at the university right now to hold anyone accountable:

<div> <span class="268473514-09042008"><font face="Arial" color="#000" size="2">"The other thing that REALLY bothers me with all of this, is that it stinks of "lack of institutional control". You know, that 5 dollar phrase that gets thrown out every time there's an NCAA investigation. Well, here's an athletic program that has hired a new football coach, altering the stereotypes given to the SEC, and has implemented a "right way of doing things" for the last 4 years. However, that same program has seen more transfers, suspensions, arrests, and dismissals than the program had in the previous 13 years COMBINED. Next you see a basketball program that has amassed the third best string of Wins and Losses in the last 6 years of SEC basketball. However, the same program has seen 10 out of 21 players recruited to play transfer out of the program. Next we have a baseball program that has seen its share of mediocre finishes over the last decade. Thanks to a late season run, last year's program managed to see the CWS for the first time in years. However, the very next year, we are looking at finishing the season at a sub .500 mark and finishing at the bottom of the SEC. We also have a head coach that is throwing the program under the bus simply to have his buddy hired on as his successor, for the 2nd time in his tenure at MSU. Next, we have an athletic director that will not relinquish power until his very last day at the University. Because of this, our up and coming AD has not had the power to organize and lead his group to do anything without butting heads with the current/onthewayout AD. Lastly, our wonderful University has a president that steps down 2 years into his 4 year agreement. </font></span> </div> <div> <font color="#000"> </font> </div> <div> <span class="268473514-09042008"><font face="Arial" color="#000" size="2">How in the world are recruits and their umbilical cords going to come to MSU when the program has no semblance of stability from the top down? If I'm a recruit in any of these sports and I'm seeing any of this, I'm starting to think Oxford, Hattiesburg, Tuscaloosa, etc are much better options. I hope to all that is good that I am wrong."

I would probably say our Athletic Department is getting better. There are definitely bumps in the road to lasting success. We are staying the course, which is good. Things usually get worse before they better over the long haul. Did you honestly think Templeton, Polk and all their other old school cronies were going to bow out gracefully to new age ideas? Not gonna happen.

They will put up a fight, and they will cause some damage, but we will be better off in the long run. Byrne will stand up to it. Croom is standing up as well. Very bright days are ahead for MSU athletics. It could be alot worse. Ask Ole Miss.

is in all that bad of a shape except for their football team, who just hired a new coach. At least they have clearly defined leadership, and their basketball and baseball programs appear to be in pretty good shape.

continues to grow.

I'd say a new AD and a new baseball coach are good start. LT is out the door in June and a new baseball coach will be in place.

Well, it won't be long before their football team is winning again. I'm not saying Nutt is the greatest coach ever, but he's solid. He'll win at Ole Miss, and Croom better gain control of his team and find an offense soon or we'll go quickly back to cellar dweller status.
