The SWAC impact: RPI goes from 45 to 61, SOS from 95 to 150.

Alcorn and Ark - Pine Bluff are a combined 0-23. Not one team in the conference has a winning record. Prairie View at 5-6 is the best of the lot. You think they would get tired of being the ***** ***** for the majors and mid-majors. Ark PB does have a sack though, their SOS is #7 in the country which explains the 0-11 start.

Problem for them is they generate a significant portion of their total athletic budget by selling those games.

The difference between the UCLA game and the MVSU game is that going into the MVSU game, you KNOW they're going to kill your RPI. Scheduling UCLA, it's an ANAMOLY when they're this bad and hurt your RPI.

since they have played UConn, North Carolina, Stanford, Indiana, and soon to play Louisville. Not a good example.

It's okay to play one or two horrible teams if you schedule some tough OOC teams. Our problem is that we do not schedule tough OOC games, unless you count Rider and Richmond. Easy wins do not prepare your team for the physical play of the SEC.

you make it sound like we're a strong conference or something. According to your boy coach, we're one of the weakest conferences in America. So which one is it?

Also, do you think we should play UK's schedule? Stanford and Indiana are both 6-6. Not exactly lights out and only a game better than UCLA. I will give you UNC and UConn, though.

When I say physical play, I mean just that. The SEC has bigger and better players than we have seen in our OOC schedule. Yea I would trade for UK's schedule. What team have we played that is anywhere close to the level of competition of UNC and UConn? None, and we never will if Stans has his way.

from a physicality standpoint. This is a veteran squad that has been through the rigors of the SEC plenty.

Our schedule sucks for 1 reason and 1 reason alone: the teams we play hurt our rpi.

Why in the world do you keep going back to the UCLA game? In any other year, UCLA would've been a GREAT RPI booster. This is an ANAMOLY year for them and you can't fault Stans/Byrne/Templeton or whoever scheduled this game at ALL for the way they're playing this year.

Teams like Stanford and Indiana will eventually have a much better RPI than the do now, simply because they'll face tougher in-conference opponents down the road. Richmond and Rider's RPI have NO WHERE to go but HIGHER, and in turn, makes ours go higher.

Why is it so difficult to see that scheduling tougher OOC games against any of the big 6 conference schools is good for your RPI? Hell, Slive held a convention with all the SEC coaches on just this matter.

It's kind of like golf, where the low score is the best.

An RPI of 1 (which is low) is better than an RPI of 150 (which is high).

We can't be the chumps we have on it now.

Whats gonna hurt us later at this point? Not playing tougher teams or getting it handed to us by two chumps.

Answer: Getting it handed to us for underachieving.

And we're doing it because a loss to Syracuse/Uconn/UNC/UCLA/Arizona/Wash/Texas/Texas Tech/Kansas/Mizzou/Iowa/Mich State/Purdue/ETC all look a helluva lot better to NCAA Tourney voters than losses to Rider and Richmond.

Not only do the voters like to see the tough schedules, they'll also look at RPI, which is 100% affected by strength of schedule... and Richmond and Rider do NOT help our SOS.

In his relatively short time on this board, missouridawg has yet to be wrong about anything,. Even when he's wrong.

Here's how the number system works.

1 is lower than 2
2 is lower than 3
3 is lower than 4
and so on....

150 is higher than 100
100 is higher than 50
50 is higher than 40
and so on...

By playing MVSU our RPI went from about 45 (not sure on the exact value) to about 60 (not sure on the exact value). And since 45 is lower than 60 (or 60 is higher than 45 if you like it that way) I stated that our RPI ranking went higher.

I understand where your confusion is coming from though, cause I had to re-read things like 3 times to set myself straight.

You want your ranking value as low as possible, closer to 1 is better.

And when did post count values declare someone on being wrong or right D@A? You still chapped about the Dodgers/Cardinals stuff?

UNC is ranked higher, but their RPI (if it's 1 and Kansas is 2) is lower, because 1 is lower than 2. Just like golf, the lower the RPI, the better.
