This is fine as long as Clifford is the outright better option to start the season after a wide open competition. However, if Franklin anoints Clifford the starter based on experience alone without the young guys getting a fair shake, it will be a long year and someone, or several, may transfer. I admit, I was disappointed that Villeaux didn’t get more playing time in the bowl game.
This thread is due to the fact that JF values and plays experienced QBs even if they are hurt and below 100%. Did this with Trace and now with Sean. This leads to the conclusion that Sean will hold this position in every game in 2022 - will not leave the field unless blowout of injury. When your experienced QB does not really have an NFL future (other than practice team) they will stay around and the backups who do not see action transfer. the UMich timeshare idea worked, but we have more talent than they did behind starter. I am not sure the CV might be better than SC right now. In terms of accuracy, SC might come in 4th among the 4 QBs. Question is what (other than injury or massive blowout) would trigger JF to put any of the 3 QBS in for SC?
personally, I would like to see all 4 QBs have same chance to earn playing time. Based on the past, this is not likely. If we have SC at the helm like this year, given all that is ahead, I think we should expect similar results. If that is all we can expect, I would prefer that do give all 3 backup QBs some time in games, to see what they can do? If it is not going to be a true competition, let's at least see them. If not, I expect only 1 to return in 2023.
