One of the dumbest stats ever created has to be the exit velocity stat. Makes me cringe every time I hear it even tho it appears to be the big trend today. Needless to say I am cringing a lot. I'd be willing to bet batting averages have done nothing but dip ever since it's emphasis. Personally I believe if you are developing a swing based on exit velocity, you've developed a swing with more weaknesses than should ever be allowed in a lineup.Baseball announcing has become inundated with mountains of arcane statistics.

Also, any true baseball fan knows by the sound it makes when bat connects to ball whether it's leaving the park. One of the dumbest stats ever created has to be the exit velocity stat. ... and different pitches will put off different bat sounds if the bat speed is the same (which it always should be). Point being the pitcher has just as much to do with a batter's exit velocity as the batter does. Also, any true baseball fan knows by the sound it makes when bat connects to ball whether it's leaving the park.
