It's not even worth arguing, but I think athletic departments paying players is a bigger change than fans paying players through NIL, which previously happened under the table.
It’s very much on top of the table now, though. And that part isn’t going away under the new system.

Hey Dawgg, if you can't tell, Ole miss is superior at this point in time. There is a reason that this board gets so much flack and you just reemphasized my prior point. I make one criticism of the board and the mob starts attacking me. Like I said, some new voices need to start being heard. People like you are the reason they aren't. Please go look in the mirror. You are not King Bulldog.
Man, this 12-year old keyboard warrior is coming in hot....!!

You ever been to South Farm, luther?

When your first words on this board are literally "If you don't believe Ole Miss is superior to us at this point, I don't know what to tell you.", you're automatically suspect and are going to get called out for it. This board has a long history of Ole Miss fans jumping on and 'concern trolling'. It doesn't happen as often as it used to, but it does still happen and it's usually a "New Member" that comes on and either puts down State or praises Ole Miss. Your first post, New Member, did both.

If you can't take being 'shamed' or being vetted or put through your paces when you start out here, then this is not the board for you. Using a phrase like "gatekeeping fandom" is a limp-wristed crutch of the weak and idiots that think the prequels or The Acolyte were good.

Get out of here with that. They aren't going to the playoffs because they couldn't keep their all-SEC running back from going to Ohio State and because Kiffin coaches like he's playing xbox.

I wish we were having more success. Hopefully Turner will retire and we'll get some DL's. The rumor going back to last season is that he apparently just doesn't think we need any more.

I don't care about Jackson Arnold. Craver was a problem. MVB drastically overvalued himself and won't start at LSU barring injury.

I wish we hadn't lost Coleman and Pollock.
I agree to an extent, but, they also aren't going to the playoffs because:

-They aren't going to the playoffs because their defense let LSU score on the final play of regulation to cap a 75 yd drive in just over 23 seconds and then gave up a 25yd TD on the first play of for LSU in OT to choke it away
-They aren't going to the playoffs because they let KY complete a 4th and 7 pass from deep in KY's own territory for 63 yds w/ 4 minutes to go and then let KY fumble and recover in the endzone a couple plays later for the go ahead TD.
-They aren't going to the playoffs because Joey Freshwater thinks its cool to go for it on 4th down all the time. Against FL they went for it from the FL 11 and didn't get it while tied at 0-0 and then let FL drive 89 yds for a TD for the first score of the game. Also didn't kick the FG from FL 10 when tied in the 3rd to give them the lead. Twice he could have taken a lead but got cute instead

This post is the epitome of what is wrong with this message board

There's something wrong w/ this message board? I thought all along it was our football team that had something wrong w/ it?

Ole Miss was a play or two away from the playoffs this year. Their schedule sets up for them to be in a similar spot next year. When they make the playoffs, any hope of Mississippi State ever being an SEC contender is over.
I disagree with this logic for two reasons:

1. They’re already a Top 15 program the last several years and way ahead of us at the moment, I don’t feel like merely making a playoff changes much. Perception is already heavily in their favor.

2. Indiana made the Playoff, does that mean Purdue is screwed forever? Is TCU now screwed forever because SMU made it? You’re gonna have non blue bloods make this thing pretty much every year now. I think it’s time to stop pretending it’s some club with highly exclusive access that only premier programs can make.

Something wrong with everything, brother. Fanbase, organization, team, coaching staff, and especially COLLEGE FOOTBALL AS A WHOLE. I'm not excluding myself here. Yes, I tend to fall towards the doom and gloom side, but at this point in our program and with the state of college football, it's hard not to. I apologize to anyone I've offended, but I felt attacked and I'm not one to sit back and let people pile on me. I think we could use some organization reform and I'm not shy to voice that. I also still believe that this board should be a little more welcoming to newcomers, but to each their own. I plan on continuing to talk in these boards, so y'all are going to have to get used to me. Yesterday, today and always, Hail State! Here's to better days ahead.

I am so tired of watching Lane 17'ing Kiffin constantly get whatever portal player he wants. Granted, he missed the playoff this year but I get the feeling this model he has created is here to stay until they fix the rules regarding the portal and NIL. Hail State but I wish our staff would catch up. I don't get it man...
This is what happens when you hire a nobody named Coach and he hires a bunch of nobodies and then nobody gets fired after a **** season. And our ad and staff try to gaslight you into thinking it's just about the money. Well they ain't doing shitt with what they got. Can't recruit the guys we have. This is why I give zero 17s about signing high school players. Taylor will be gone next year and Lebby will whiff again in the portal. Bring in an experienced coach that knows what the hell they are doing rather than amateur hour

Well said, there is definitely a problem these days. Maybe you are one of us... See, we can talk bad about the sad state of affairs in STK all day long, but we can't have some random poster (aka closet OM fan) coming on here saying the same shitt we're saying. No sirree.

Now that you have passed the trial by fire, you may keep posting and complaining now.**

Also maybe get a list of test questions together, sorta like a Naturalization Test to become a SPS citizen.

"What was our kicker's name in 1999?"
"Who was your favorite PG during the Stansbury era?"
"What was JR's score on the english section of the ACT?"**

"What color is The Official Six Pack tent?"
"Where does dawgstudent go to fight opposing fans?"
"Who was the Six Pack male chauvinist pig that got banned?"
"What section of the ACT score is used to judge a Pack members intellect?"

They have done well in the current iteration (2021-2025) and might make the CFP in 2025, but it's not as if the current system is here to stay. The biggest change in college sports history is expected to take effect in seven months.
this is why we are not dropping 8 figures on a class that won't get to the playoffs, its beyond silly and stupid

what bowl is Ole Miss going to and who do they play?

is it still the most expensive bowl in history? Ole Miss spent 5X the bowl payout, might be the single biggest bust in college football history

Yeah, 4* kids from LSU, Ark, and Nebraska does have a better ring to it than high 2* hopefuls from Kennesaw State and Old Dominion.

Not to mention that OM has 8 outgoing to our 24

Like I’ve already said a couple times today, forget trying to compete with teams like this because we’re not even playing the same game
OM is losing a ton to the NFL and graduation. Nearly all of their starters are going.

OM won't be anywhere close to the playoffs next season. They lose nearly all of their starters after this year. They won't replace all of those losses in the portal.

Saying Old Missy is superior to us because they spend more money on players? Wow, that is the stupidest thing I've ever read on here. A winning football team doesn't make a school or it's fans superior. If you say Mississippi is beating us in the portal I would agree based on rankings. Bowtie wearing grove dwellers are not superior to anyone.

At your age, you got to see the very best time of MSU and now you are getting to see the regular stuff. You have a long life ahead. Do NOT take any advice from anyone on this board on how to cope with MSU fandom. Your liver will suffer...

A contender? We aren't contending for the SEC title with the addition of TX and OU. We cannot defeat all of them in a single season, not possible. MSU has not shown that it cares enough about football to even try to field a contender since Jackie left. We struck lighting in the bottle with Dak's Team, but that's it.

Rev-sharing will reel it back in, in my opinion. It will be more structured. Top players will probably look around each year, but the middle layers will probably be more stable now that everybody is getting roughly the same amount. On average, scholarship football players will be getting $146,667. I'm sure that will be tiered based on experience, starting status, etc. Minus a little for this settlement or whatever.

Collectives will still do things, but it's (supposedly) gonna get regulated based on fair market value.

I knew who Lebby was, but this is the SEC. You need a proven winning head coach if you want to be successful and attract talent. Why the hell would you want to come play for a guy who had never been a head coach before no proven track record and hired a bunch of unknowns. Then he goes 2-10. G5 schools are making better hires than us and making smarter decisions with hiring and firing.

Years. Just made my own account because you all are insufferable and it's time for some new voices on the board. Every time there is a "new member", they are shamed for voicing their opinion. Quit trying to gatekeep fandom, it's exhausting.
You're looking for Gene's Page. If you think that is shaming, you are in the wrong place.

How’s it going to be reeled back in? It’s actually doing the opposite. The double digit number of schools in our league that are privately bankrolling $12-25 million payrolls right now….those folks are all going to just lose interest and find something else to do with their money? All its doing is giving these jackasses even more money, and creating a ton of waste in the process if you’re setting mininum payments, etc.

Whether the decision is between $1 million and $2 million, or $4 million and $5 million, nobody is taking the lower number. And schools like MSU are always going to be the lower number.

It doesn't matter who they sign Ole Miss still Has Lane Kiffin for their coach. He is a good coach but gets in his own way when making some plays. Especially those mysterious "one or two plays he needs to make to get to the playoffs. Even if and when he gets there, it's gonna be something to watch.

Luthermanmole, I have been on this board for a long time. I also am not anonymous to most of the board and due to the reason I am known by many I have earned some positive feelings towards me.

With that said, when I have posted an opinion, or even a fact, you open yourself to opposing forces. Someone will disagree with you or make assumptions about your post or prove their reading comprehension isn't very good and not know it. Don't take it personally, especially since no one knows you, and don't seriously engage with anyone. Generally they want to get a rise out of you.

So just take it easy and realize not everyone is going to agree with you and that's ok.
