On his Happy Valley experience as a visiting player with Indiana...
My biggest takeaway was actually (Joe Paterno). Every time you played Penn State, you didn't know if it was last time you're gonna meet Joe Paterno. So the game is over and no matter how upset we were that we lost, there was a line to shake Joe's hand, and I was one of them. I called my dad, said I met Joe Paterno.
Now, the second time I met Joe Paterno was 12 hours later, because our plane didn't take off. We were stuck on the tarmac, the Indiana football team is stuck on the tarmac, I'm sitting on a bag. And this is the power of State College — every hotel room was gone. Obviously we were the Homecoming (game), and every hotel room was taken until the entire football team was in the the conference room overnight, literally sleeping on chairs, and it was miserable. We did get ice cream from the creamery, so that was the first time I experienced that, which was a win.
But at about six in the morning, (Paterno) came in and talked to us, and it was pretty incredible actually. That didn't happen, that doesn't happen. He came and spoke to the team, and he was like, 'Hey, I'm sorry that this happened.' In fact, when this came to fruition, my (Indiana) teammates talked about it. We still talk about that moment. That is a very memorable game actually, because of all that.
