Why do i not see much interest in him on this board? I think he would be a great hire.

I'd be fine with him. It would be interesting to know what Selmon's thoughts are on a new coach.

I like Herman’s background but I can’t say I’ve ever paid much attention to any of his teams. I do like the fact that he’s probably hungry to prove he’s an elite coach like everyone thought prior to Texas.

Tom Herman is your guy if you've missed Mullen (Megan that is). Check out the expression on the player's face at 1:30.

I think he's probably been mentioned as much as anyone. He's likely one our most likely top three, along with Clay Helton and the Gus Bus.

I think if you established and experienced he is the best candidate mentioned unless Stoops is a possibility. If he could rekindle Houston Herman here that would be awesome. If you go young and innovative it has to be Kinne. Kinne might not want it tho

I'm betting it will be at least 2 weeks from tomorrow before you hear that, if then. I think at that point he'll have to either come out w/ the dreaded vote of confidence (that dooms all coaches) or fire him.

Would you rather have veer and shoot style offense or the Meyer style offense. Not sure which type of offense Herman would run but his version of spread is a lot more lower like Mullen if I recall and from what I've seen them run.

Nice to hear at least some others are interested. Ive wanted him since he brought Houston back to relevance. Texas was wayyyyy too quick to fire him.

I'm no expert on TH, but if we hired him I'd sure like to see it turn out like the Barnes hire at UTenn Bball.

Texas did that guy dirty and he's proven it in spades.

Because he's 4-5 in the now much shìttier AAC and he put up Moorheadesque results in the Big 12 at the school with the biggest bankroll in college football.

He's the Buc-ee's brisket of college football coaches.
You do realize who was the coach before him right? pretty impressive that he made 4-5.....

don't forget that he went 22-4 at Houston.

He parlayed that Houston success (inheritance from a program built by Briles and Sumlin) into 5 years of 7-8 wins at Texas in a naked Big 12.

Now he's at Florida ******* Atlantic and will have a losing season. Kiffin won 11 in year one after 3 consecutive 3 win seasons before he got there. Herman blows.

Inheritance from Briles and Sumlin isn't even close to correct. You might wanna do some research on that. Briles was 03 thru 07 and Sumlin was 08 thru 11. Tony Levine was the coach prior to Herman and he went 21 and 17. Herman was 22 and 4 in 15/16. At least get it close to right

Tony’s players weren’t bad, though. In fact, they’re g-r-r-r-eat!

Okay let's discuss. Do you not think Briles and Sumlin built Houston into a solid G5 program? Or do you think Levine ruined it? Do we not distinguish between the current team and the overall program?

Briles and Sumlin turned Houston into a winner. When Briles inherited Houston in 03', they had 10 losing seasons from 1991-2002. Several of those with 1 win and a 0 win season in 2001.

A 17ing 0fer.

Herman took over a successful program from a meh coach. The 2 seasons before Herman got the Houston job in 2015, Levine won 8 games each year. Sumlin had them at 13-1 in his last year in 11'. So the Redshirt SRs on Herman's 13-1 team were on Sumlin's 13-1 team.

Houston's record the 12 years before Briles:
40-93-1. 1 bowl appearance.
Houston's record the 12 years before Herman:
93-60. 9 bowl appearances.

So let's not act like Herman rebuilt the Titanic from the bottom of the ocean floor. Briles did that after a decade of massive losing. Sumlin got it going full speed. Levine was not a great coach, but he kept it afloat.

So yes, Herman absolutely inherited a program built by Briles and Sumlin. The team and players were probably mostly Levine's, but it was still a solid program.

21 and 17 is garbage. And how would Sumlins RS seniors still be on Herman's team ? Nobody said he was the only coach to win there but it's obvious he drastically improved the program. 21 and 17 and 22 and 4 are not the same thing. Briles was 34 and 28 and Sumlin was 35 and 17. Sumlin did a good job but not quite 22 and 4

Herman’s last three teams at Texas all finished in the Top 25. He wasn’t amazing there but he was far from a disaster.

The record at FAU this year is a little misleading, they played a tough nonconference schedule and actually are over .500 in their league. I’m not gonna blame him for losing to Clemson and Illinois

He’s not a perfect candidate but that’s not possible for us.

Plus he had Houston as high as 6 one year and 8 his other year. Briles last year there was a great year but they were not ranked. Sumlin got them to 7 one year.
