I hope the omission of Allar was just a misunderstanding.

That’s interesting because they did have Allar listed in the top 10 and the comments were ripping them for it. If this is their latest list, they reranked people.

There are a good number of very good college QBs who return each season with high expectations, making these lists somewhat easy to compile by looking back vs looking forward, imo.

Historically in college football (for the most part), QBs show their biggest leap in overall contribution (e.g. understanding of the game concepts), comfort level (e.g. leadership, handling tough game situations), and display of natural talents between their 1st and 2nd years as a starter. Another leap is taken for their 3rd year, but the gap to being considered a very good college QB isn't always as great to begin with in that time frame. We fans like our O Coord and our QB Coach, who are key components of a QB being able to make that leap.

I certainly expect more from Drew this season, after a pretty good, but not great, 1st year as starter. My hope is that he is just so damn good in 2024 that he has no choice but to declare for the NFL after this season. That will mean we had a really good football season overall, imo.

the majority of this list have decent dual threat capabilities. the perception is that Drew cannot be a run threat, which is not true. The offensive scheme did not seem to maximize the talents last year also. we were getting defensive schemes against us that could ignore many types of plays, and the running backs wound up with a much different situation in 2023 vs 2022.

Nebraska is being characterized as a turnaround story due to a 5* QB that has never played a game in CFB.

Agree. Dual threat is more important in college, and in defining a good-to-great college QB, than in the pros, at least for now.

Having more confidence in his own ability to make plays running, among other things, is what hopefully separates his '24 performance over his '23 performance. I think the pros see him as more of a classic pocket NFL passer, if he is to be successful there, so he won't be expected to run at that level.

I don’t really care about lists like this, but if you watched him play the two big games last year I’m not sure you’d put him in the top 50. He was alarmingly bad to my eyes.
Why do most of you expect psu to always make the playoffs with a bad QB?

You don’t rate with the top guys until you win against the best.

When he wins a game that really matters he can then be considered for top status.

I believe that most look at Ruhls college coaching record and think past is prolog.

He did take Temple and Baylor and make them big winners after poor first seasons.

If he does that at Nebraska he will have to beat a highly ranked team or two. That fan base is hungry for success. If he gives them that they will make him a god.

0 top 10 wins for his entire career.

Ps. What did they win?

2023 Allar got sacrificed on the altar of sixth year Sean Clifford. He has another year to figure it out if this one goes sideways, and I would imagine if it doesn’t happen that he can look to Will Levis for NFL hope. Though I don’t think our “it works really well against teams with less talent than us” offensive system and the complete lack of capable WRs do him any favors.

Drew Allar will be on that list at the end of the season. He's going to show improvement across the board and build on what was a successful first year as a starter.
