Like many of the talking heads on Gameday, I like Beamer and think that he has great HC potential. Some of those dudes really like what he's doing here, including Saban. I also still feel that Beamer really doesn't know the Xs and Os like an HC needs to. Or at least the awareness of what the play call should be in many important situations. What's for sure is that Beamer is a people person. He really enjoys (and wants to be involved with) his players on an emotional level... think "creating a family culture."
And... is that enough to make this team into a winner? I fully believe that it would have been in the years when you needed players to buy in to your school and your culture. That doesn't mean much now - just look at what's happened to Clemson. Now the "best" players look at what they can get from your school. Juice UNLV-d us last year without actually saying he was doing it. Stewart is most likely gone if this team even goes 7-5.
So... a big part of me wants to hang onto Beamer. He loves being here and loves our university. We gave him his first real big opportunity and he's the kind of guy that will be eternally grateful for it. The other part of me wonders if he's the kind of guy who can make the tough decisions to make this program into a winner (so far, the jury is definitely out). Stewart should have been benched after the shotgun celebration (his 2nd on the year), for example.
