Under his watch, our passing yards allowed/game has gone: 187 ypg (#10 nationally), 217 ypg (47th nationally), 337 ypg (132nd nationally).

I'm sure it's not all on the DBs, but I don't know that I see a defensible reason for retaining him at year's end.

You could fire everyone on that side of the ball if you look at stats. It's Beamer's job to figure out the root cause of the problem.

Personally, I don't think Gray is the problem. I thinks it's a bigger issue (White). I don't think you clean house on that side of the ball.

Every position is struggling on defense. Very little pressure by the DL. The LB's make very few plays. The DB's look lost. I would argue that our safeties have played well except when they are put 1 on 1 against top receivers.

Regardless of the root cause, it's White's job to fix it and that doesn't appear to be happening.

I suppose replacing the DC and seeing how Gray performs under a new one is justifiable, but it's been a startling cratering on pass D. Run D has remained more or less steady over the last 3 years in terms of ypg allowed.

Beamer has to come to terms with what's happening on that side of the ball and I think he knows that.

I can see him replacing our DC, but I don't see him also replacing position coaches at the same time.

Whoever we get in that DC role will already know what he's got to deal with positionally when he arrives.

If his plan is to replace the DC, he doesn’t need to replace position coaches. The new DC should have a say in who stays and goes.

This is something I wondered about in a separate thread. I would guess the new DC will meet with existing staff and then maybe make some changes if he desires.
A new DC likely won't have free reign to fire and replace. This will be Beamer's call with input from the new DC. $$'s, recruits, potential players transferring out all need to be considered. I'm sure a new DC and Beamer would discuss the plan prior to signing a contract.

Well, certainly.

Firing coaches is not always the answer. Gray is a terrific recruiter. DB play a lot better when the dl puts pressure up front. Injuries have resulted in a piece meal line up.

That is true. I don't know what our pressure rate is and all that this year.

That doesn't hold up for the UF. We got plenty of pressure on Mertz...didn't help much.
