There is no way that the prices of these trucks, or SUV’s can remain as inflated as they are. I have a 2020 GMC that I like a lot, but the transmission is on the fritz. I need a diesel bc I’m doing a lot more trailering than I anticipated when I bought my 2020.

These damn prices are 20-30k more than what I paid in 2020. I have a good job and I’m fine financially, but logically cannot 17ing do it. How is any normal person affording this s hit?

Any insiders here?

Surely these prices will drop. Surely the populous will quit overextending themselves.

I’ve had some bourbon, and I’m looking at trucks.

Need a little more info, what are you towing, how often and why? If recreational towing can you get a lighter set up? A diesel is going to cost much more, not just up front, but fuel cost and maintenance also.

If I was buying a truck, I'd find a 2018ish Tundra with less than 100k. Obviously the towing capacity will be much less than a diesel though.

I’ve got a 75 hp tractor that I’d like to be able to move btw two pieces of land. I’m in between buying a hd truck or fixing my current one and getting another tractor.

Leaning towards the tractor route, I hear that there are deals to be had bc sales are down in that market.

Same boat. 03 z71 that I’m worried I’ll uncover more wrong when I fix PCM and BCM. Truck is over 20 years old and has been a driveway ornament since Kid 1 was born….it’s time.
We’ve never had a car note and I have a cheap Buick as my daily driver that I bought when I traveled more for work, but sick of driving a car and would love to be in a truck again for farm/yard work….until I look at the prices. Then, borrowing my MILs truck isn’t half bad.
Your pain is felt, fellow truck shopper and bourbon enthusiast

I feel your pain. In the market now for a new car for my wife. Meanwhile I'm still plugging along in my 2004 Ram 2500 with 345,000 miles. Brake lights have been on the last 5 or so years. The part that is bad is no longer available. Brakes still work so I keep driving it. More electrical issues than I can count. But it's gotten me through 3 direct tornado impacts and I don't have 60-70k to drop on a new ride so we just keep marching forward.

I bought in April. Found what I wanted with about 10k miles but damn the prices were ridiculous. I honestly don’t see how some folks are making it right now. I think there is a vehicle bubble about to burst when the economy slows

Just bought a new ride… planned on buying a new truck for few years now. But when it got down to it, just couldn’t pull the trigger. I’m too damn practical. Bought an suv that gets 35mpg and comfortably carries me and up to 3 others

I need a truck at most 10-12 times a year, and I’ve got an old 98 model that still gets those jobs done. Just could not justify dropping an extra 20-30k for a new one (compared to the suv I bought)

I've about decided to do the same, going to get an SUV and a trailer. I'll use the trailer when I need to haul pine straw bales for the flower beds, bags of dirt for my to-mater plants, my lawn tractor to the shop (which I just had to do). SUV will be cheaper, much better mileage and a better drive.

Same here, wanted a new truck. I put lots of miles on my main ride though and it just did not make sense for the purchase price and operating cost. I got the SUV but opted for the cheapest most reliable to operate I could find and settled on the crossover SUV .. I got one with lots of towing capacity and put a trailer hitch on it too.

kept my old truck, 275,000 miles, replaced trans and engine still strong. Use it sparingly.
That SUV? I opted for the IONIQ 5. 10 year warranty on batteries (EV) no maintenance other than tires and cabin filter to speak about. Cost me $.027 to .032 per mile for energy depending on how I drive and outside temp so long as I charge at home and I do. So far, 1.5 years in, no regrets. Trucks can be hell on a bank account. Besides, this SUV is fun as heck to drive.

Truck prices are really bad. It used to be a truck was more a symbol of a working person, and it was affordable.
I checked truck prices, and then started looking at Land Rover Defenders and Maserati SUVs instead because they are not just too far off from a truck price.

I love dumping on that guy as much as any, but they all did that. Every person in Washington has zero problem inflating our monetary supply as long as they get their cut first.
but back to trucks….yeah, my 07 tundra keeps rolling. I’ve put new brakes and shocks on this year. I’m considering updating the radio to add Bluetooth so it will feel new. Same boat as all y’all. New ones sure look nice, but I’m not wading into those prices.

I'm in a 2004 F150 with 398K miles. I just keep replacing parts. So far, no transmission or engine issues. No point in taking on a car mortgage, but I like to work on cars anyway. I doubt I'll ever buy another truck with less than 100K miles on it. Just not worth it. You can get a nice ride with 100K miles for around 20-25K and if you maintain it right, you'll get 300K miles out of it pretty easily unless it's just a lemon.

Up here in Nashville, trucks are popular with the carpetbaggers thinking they’ll fit in. They’ll buy the supremo versions of trucks all decked out with the coolest accessories like they go mudding every weekend. The Raptor is a popular truck as well since everyone needs a truck that will allow one to take sand dunes easily around middle TN.
You can tell the posers from the real deal very easily. They’re like OM people flashing the most expensive accessories that they never use or don’t need just to look riche.

If a Kubota, that is in the $40k range? Half the price of a new diesel...

Don’t discount a HD truck with a gas engine. Lots cheaper than a diesel and for occasional towing it does the exact same job. I drove a diesel for years but I wouldn’t go back, unless you really use the truck for extreme towing, the gas truck is just better.

Well I hope that all of you stop buying trucks so those of us who do actually need trucks will maybe just maybe get a little price break at some point.
That is your only hope. It has become a luxury vehicle unfortunately. There is really no reason for 98% of people to need a full size truck. Anything with a bed will satisfy almost all the needs of a suburban dad, but the full size truck makes them look cool.

It’s also about time these car companies make some more economy level trims. They leaned hard into the luxury trims during the shortages. Unfortunately for the car companies the suckers are gone now.

It does seem the tide is turning. Dodge is feeling it the worst ATM. They are just a canary in the coal mine for the rest. They all could have a real real tough end of the year here and there will be big deals to be had.

How heavy are you towing? Diesel engines are higher that giraffe pùssy these days. I have a 2019 F250 with a gas burner and it pulls 9,000 lbs just fine. Works a little going up/down the mountain passes vs a diesel, but I swear when I bought it I saved 15-20k and I bet the same is true today. If you can make a gas burner work in a 3/4 ton, there's a big savings there.

That said, inventory is definitely building. Took my wife's jeep in service recently and Rams were piling up like seagull shìt at a landfill. The big (how big is the question) incentives will come later in the year (labor day) when dealers/manufacturers start eyeballing the next year's models.

Good luck.

I’ve been thinking about getting a truck for the last few years, but sticker shock changes my mind every time I think about it. I drive a 2009 Honda Accord with 260k miles, 1995 Jeep YJ with no top and a 10x6 trailer I pull with the jeep in case I need something moved. I can justify spending that truck money on something else

You can still get base model vehicles for prices that are similar to what they used to be, plus normal inflation. Vehicles in general today have so much more crap on them, and that stuff is expensive.

Similar to phones, we wonder why they keep going up, well, it's because you have a supercomputer in your hand, vs. a landline 30 years ago (maybe with an antenna).

I’m in a 2008 GMC Sierra, with 226K miles, which I bought used with 7800 miles in 2009.

Wife has had 2 new SUV’s since 2014. If that 2014 Pathfinder hadn’t been a POS, I’d be in a newer ride by now.

Prices have to drop soon, on everything!

Bro same here I’ve got an 03. It just keeps running. I’m going to keep it for hauling and such, and probably get a little commuter car too.

Price aren’t going down anytime soon. Interest rates might though.

Your trade-in should have more equity in it which should help.

I driven a truck for over 30 years. I can’t imagine not driving one. Sure over 80% of the time I don’t need it but when do I do. I have a trailer but sometimes I still need the truck. This weekend I need the truck to haul some fur but we also need my wife’s suv to haul the 4 grandkids. So I going to have make two trips to Huntsville instead of one.

As some of you may remember, I bought a used 2022 Frontier last summer and I'm glad I did as prices haven't gone down any. I've put about 10K miles on it and am satisfied with the purchase. Got it at $31500, could have got something cheaper but it would have been older and more milage. I've been pleasantly surprised by gas milage as I'm averaging about 25 mpg, I can flirt with 30 mpg on the Natchez Trace with cruise set at 55 - 60. So far I'm happy with the purchase, it does everything I need it to do.

Just got a recall notice on my 2015 F150 for tailpipe emissions. The want to reprogram my computer. Truck runs great and gets good mileage and the first reports from those who have had this done is that their truck ran like schit when they got it back. To me this recall is a "Pandora's box" and I hope recalling 9 year vehicles to tweak their emission systems is not a sign of worse things to come. BTW I sent Ford their recall notice back and told them to stick it up their ***.

Oh I agree. The Government has been run by NeoCons and Leftist since they killed JFK. They are picking a fight with Russia now just in time for election season.

You are right and the ultimate goal is to shrink the middle class and create government dependency.

I sold my 2002 Ford F350 because we needed something that would tow a 16, 700 5th wheel. I bought a 2014 Ford F350 with 172k miles. A Ford diesel with 150k is just getting broke in.
