I’m shocked.

Strasbourg wasn’t happy with him and he left them today.

Is it common for NT’s to hire managers that were let go from their last 3 posts?

Great player. Very mediocre manager. May as well have just kept Berhalter.

What a poor hire after firing Gregg for underperforming. Please don't let this be our fate

Would be a really poor hire to put it mildly. So, it certainly sounds like U.S. soccer then.

Three is also talk of Thierry Henry apparently, which if you are building a 2000’s super team then Henry and Vieira are on it but as managers they’re lacking for sure so far.

If we're even bothering talking to those guys, just go ahead and hire Cherundolo. Not super exciting choice, but better than either of those two.

We should have learned long ago to never be surprised by the mediocrity & small minded thinking of US Soccer. But this is a disappointment even as low as my expectations were.
Do you think we are trying for better and just can't get them interested or pay them or whatever?

My guess is a little if both. Really, the guy they need to go after who would probably take the job is Herve Reynard. Currently coaching the French women, but has a lot of experience coaching men’s national teams in Africa. Won 2 African Cups with 2 relative minnows & had some World Cup success (for small African teams).

I really don't know who to hire but Herve Reynaud's resume is pretty impressive and he should be considered. There was no chance in hell of getting Klopp or anyone else that successful. We can't afford it and the U.S. job is challenging. We have a player pool on 3 continents and we're not paying what the top guys want to make. I can see Vieira being an upgrade over Gregg. He's had some success (Nice), has coached in good leagues, has MLS experience and he'll command respect from players and perhaps isn't as concerned as Gregg was about being liked. He's also had mediocre teams. But that's the type of coach we'll lure to the U.S. We're not in a position yet to get top flight managers.

Not going with Jesse Marsh after the WC was a mistake. He has a better resume than Vieira and knows US soccer culture. Even if he hadn't done well we'd still have time to move on from him. Now we need a coach in place and one we have no choice but to give a fair amount of time to so we have a team prepared for the upcoming World Cup. Can't make a mistake right now.

He was the obvious choice. And would be today too if we hadn’t burned that bridge. He’s seen enough of the sh*t show upper management at US Soccer is & wants no part of it.

We simply aren’t attractive enough for many proven winners and because we’ve whiffed once already, we are too scared to gamble on a younger, less experienced guy.

so that leaves you with a bunch of middling choices of guys with modest success or guys that people thought would be good that just didn’t perform as well as hoped.

Somewhere in that group is a good manager that has either learned form their mistakes or just wasn’t a great fit other places. We have to find a way to hit on that kind of guy and it’s honestly a crapshoot
