It wasn't a comment, it's what he actually did, lol. Weather was bad and they had two planes...he sent the plane with the backups and staff in first and said if they make it, he assumes they'll be good to land.

The way UCLA has been playing would it make any difference if they took them to Chuck E Cheese?
Looks like UCLA is flying out of MDT. Since there isn't regular service to LAX, I can't think of any other reason why a 757 would be leaving MDT at 6:30 bound for LAX.

Looking at the 2015 Master Plan for State College airport the recommendation was to lengthen the runway to 7,500ft. My guess is with the west coast travel now happening they'd have to go longer than that to I'd say 8,500ft. There is significant room to the northeast of the runway that could probably handle it.
If the runway is extended 1000 feet to the northeast, it gets about 460 feet from Rock Road. An option would be to add 500 feet to the southwest side (Runway 6) and add 500 feet to the northeast side to provide enough buffer. There is a building on the southwest side, but it does not look to be too much of an impediment.
That said, for one or two times per year, is this really worth it?

Speaking of UCLA. We were in St Louis yesterday and driving back east on 70 this morning saw both the UCLA and Kansas State FB equipment trucks heading back west.
