UNC player comment on S Carolina

We have a family friend who plays for UNC on their O-line. We talked with him the other day asking what he thought of S Carolina. His biggest comment (and know he likes S Carolina fine so not attacking) was that the defense didnt hit very hard or play very aggressive. He transferred from a lower school and said teams in that conference played harder and with way more aggression than S Carolina did Saturday Night. Basically his assessment was that S Carolina played "soft". His teammates felt the same about our offense which I think we may all have seen that. He played against our defense and said our scheme was ok but we just didnt play very hard and made it easy to get a push for UNC. He was not impressed with our d-line style play at all.
Take it for what its worth but it was honest assessment from a UNC player. He wasnt trying to dig anything and trash talk, he knows we like S Carolina. He just felt there was not real aggressiveness from much of our team.

Personally I would rather say we were not very good than I would say we played soft. You can work on skill and technique and playing hard will come through but if we play soft, then this season is over before it really starts. I hope we change that style for this week.

A damning indictment. Embarrassing.

Agree with this. DL has been soft since Lawing left. Hoping Travian can instill some of that dawg he played with. But it ain't going to show up this year. Thought our LBs/secondary was plenty physical enough. Debo had several big hits. OD had some, Kilgore had some. But I can see how he has that POV as an OL going against our DL.

I thought we played weak all game too. Only a handful of players played with aggression. Jalen Kilgore, Debo, Stone, and Xavier Leggette

My impressions from watching the game are completely in line with his.

I don’t disagree with the assessment. Our defense looked like the old Muschamp defenses in that they were fine sitting back and backing up. Very rarely were defenders standing their ground, much less penetrating. We didn’t attack the football, we waited for the football to arrive to make a tackle. That’s usually going to cost you 2-3 yards per play.

Good thing is, it can be fixed. But have to be way more aggressive.

Hard to disagree with his statements. if Joyner is our best option at RB we can pack the season in just as quickly as it started. He is so soft, he can’t shed tackles and he goes down at first contact. They say he can run in space but what RB at this level can’t. Play Braswell now and get him some reps. Beamer being loyal to Joyner isn’t doing the team any favor.

I'm thinking desperation more than loyalty.

In today's world anyone can say anything. Do not believe everything you read. Easy to post something after the fact. Just like in today's social and political world you can say the sky is falling and a lot of people believe you. Read the tea leaves. I think probably the biggest take I see was the defensive approach that UNC was taking and I felt like that came from the coach that went there from USC who used to coach in the NFL. Just my 2 cents.

Not sure where you are going with this but sounds like you didnt care for the post. Of course it was after the fact, we talked to the guy after the game. It was just his assessment of our play that night. If you are saying dont believe what you read, ok but just a comment by a UNC player, nothing else. I wasnt saying "the sky is falling" just sharing what the opponent felt. If you dont like what he said thats fine but the way you responded is a little .....defensive? quirky? You responded like I just posted a political presidential statement.
Lets be honest, we played like crap and we all saw it. Does it mean it will be that way all year? No but was what one player said who played us and I guarantee some of our coaches felt same way and passed that message on behind the scenes.

Shades of Ward who I thought was worst DC USC ever had. White needs to get his butt in gear and fix these defensive problems or he may follow Satt to Neb.

We did hit Maye once that I know of. On that play he wildly threw the ball way into the air only for our DB to never look back, fall forward, leading to a textbook High School TD reception for the Heels. Pretty sure those were their final points.
That particular player did not have a good night. There was a particular offensive lineman who had a dreadful night as well. If they can't get it together Saturday, next man up.

I agree we did not play well and yes that is a fact. Just saying in this day and time especially with all the social and political issues I do not know what to believe anymore. I mean I could say I talked to a player from UNC and he said something different. How do I know that statement is accurate? You have a right to believe what you read and I have a right also and no I do not believe that statement is accurate. If you are offended I am sorry.

Well Im sorry but I didnt "read" it, my family talked with the guy directly. Im not offended other than you seem to not want to hear one players viewpoint. Yes maybe another would say differently but this was not social media, this was direct conversation. I am pretty sure that was completely implied in original post. I fully agree with you that you cant believe all you read, particularly social media, however this was direct conversation. If social media I would have provided link. This was opinion of one player who actually likes USC and has no ill will to them. He had no reason to tell us something just to be a jerk. He told us like he personally experienced it on the field.
I really couldnt question it because it wasnt far from what I feel like we all saw on their style of play.
