Interesting. Guess the deal now is if you are a starter, you have four games to pay up or else.

I hope that more stories like this come out. Schools that are over promising need to be called out.

If he agreed to NIL A and it's not being paid, he's in the right.
Hey may, indeed, contractually be in the right, but quitting on your teammates 3 games into the season, on Tuesday of a game week, no less, will never be viewed favorably for the player. And, you were right to start that sentence with an "if". We have no idea if what he's saying is true. Very well could be he simply got a better offer elsewhere.

You may be out of touch with today's football.

If I were head coach this kid would be immediately removed from the team and banned from all football/athletic facilities.

Since the kid quit the team I don't think that would have very much affect on him.

Since the transfer portal isn't open at the moment he doesn't have anywhere else to go (yet). I assume, perhaps incorrectly, that the best place for him to continue to train and work out would be at the UNLV football/athletic facilities.

It doesn't sound like UNLV is the best place for this kid. I would knock the dust of that place from my sandals and move on with a private trainer.

IMHO, the best thing to do is play it out and demonstrate your worth for a future team. You are 3-0 and apparently playing well so just keep the momentum going. Bailing on the team is not a good impression to make. If they reneged on the NIL offer you just chalk it up as a learning experience and move on.

He made a business decision and made a bad choice in business partner. That's on him for not doing his due diligence.

And lose a year of eligibility making the money you get promised from a more ethical program.

Due diligence? Like he should have known they were lying to his face? Staying with that program would be doubling down on a bad decision. Programs like UNLV and Florida are the reason legal contracts are coming.

No where to go at the moment. If what he says is true and someone has agreed to pay him to sit out the season, then fine.
Just don't think it is wise to bail out on your teammates as a character statement even if he has been wronged.

If he wants to be a big boy and make big boy decisions, you gotta have your head on a swivel. Choose your business partners wisely.

He failed in that. Sometimes in life, as a grown up, you make a bad decision that is nobody's fault but your own, but you can't always just tuck tail and run and back out of it. You have to be a man and live with the decision that was mad. He has not yet learned how to be a man.

He quit the football team. He isn't going to have access to football facilities at UNLV no matter what now. Regular Carolina students don't have access to the football facilities. He can use the gyms, fields, tracks, weight rooms, etc. that are available to all UNLV students if he wants to. I would think he would probably withdraw from school and leave altogether.

I'm not really sure what his ultimate goal is. He's not NFL caliber, that much is for sure. He has a 43.8% completion percentage this year with 318 yards in 3 games, 6.6 yards average. He is adept as a runner, but overall, he's not bound for the league. He's in 5th year and is 22/23 years old. I can't see him commanding big NIL bucks like your top players. Seems, financially, it would be in his best interest, even if UNLV is unable to meet their NIL obligations (which we have no reason to believe at the moment), to play this year out. If UNLV made the playoffs, he would surely be in for a much bigger pay day for a larger school next year.

I get the purely emotional reaction of wanting to quit b/c he's not getting what he was promised (allegedly) but it doesn't make long-term business sense.

If I am teammate, I understand this one. This is not High School. If you contractually made representations to the man, pay him.

I absolutely guarantee you, they do not. They know they just had any shot of making the playoffs taken away.

Besides, as noted above, it's far more likely that tampering is the issue here, not UNLV's failure to meet obligations.

Yes, this seems FAR more likely to be the case. His line about UNLV failing to keep their NIL commitment reeks of horse caca. Anyone who buys that line is a Grade A moron.

Did you play football? I think I recall you said you did not. I played football and my son is playing in today's times. You may not appreciate their values, but I guarantee you they are saying, "We are going to miss you, but you have to get your money. They are not holding on to some ideal that you have to be their for your teammates. This is not "Rudy".

Saw this too.

Seems like he is looking for more money.

That's right, Al Bundy here played highschool football.

The truth is, as usual, in the middle. There will be teammates that understand, IF what the player says is true. And there will be players that are pissed.

If the above tweet is true, I don't think many teammates will be understanding.

This absolutely has to be the case.

Let's face it, he went to UNLV. It's not like they offered him some ultra-lucrative NIL deal that they now can't pay.

I guess you and the team feel the same way about Juice?

lol, if this is even true, it would mean he based his decision on a verbal promise from an assistant coach of what he would be paid? Not even a verbal promise from the collective? And he had nothing in writing?

How dumb are this kid and his parents?

So neither UNLV nor their collective reneged on any commitment, as he alleged. As this narrative by Thamel goes, he transferred there and hoped to work out a $100,000 NIL deal. No agreement could be reached, so he's quitting.

If this report is true, it's just as bad as quitting b/c you feel your market value has increased.
