UNLVs QB not playing the rest of the season so he can redshirt

Wow! In his defense, he may have been promised a certain amount of NIL money and that money was not delivered. If you hired on to a job, promised a certain salary, but you got a lower salary, you'd likely move on too.
That’s exactly what it sounds like to me as well.

Side note: Watch UNLV’s recruiting efforts and sports teams go into a free fall. There will be a LOT of student athletes asking UNLV’s coaches why should they should trust them.

Edit to add: Their Collective may have to be more transparent as to how they operate in response.

This seems to me more of a potentially tampering situation. Maybe a certain player rep was reached out to by a school and that said schools collective has made an offer. You are going to see this more and more with G5 and maybe some P4 players. Maintain eligibility for a year to go play at a bigger school.

Dude.

Think.

Occam’s Razor.

What’s more likely to happen?

Someone not being paid the way he thought he was — something seen a LOT in the job world as we both know— or tampering?

Not being paid like he was promised makes a lot of sense considering the comment about “discussions.”

Edit to add: Graduate student QB transfer from Holy Cross. Below a 50 percent completion rate this season and averaging a little over 100 yards passing per game does not sound like someone who would be a prospect.

But he must know something about what he’s going to be paid by another school. I guarantee there is tampering going on.

I googled it and first result said per a “source” he’s been approached by another school offering more money.
I didn’t completely discount the possibility.

He doesn’t scream Prospect to me. Grad student transfer from an FCS school?

Could be a combination of UNLV not paying him and tampering, but what sucks for UNLV is that they could’ve been a legit contender for a playoff spot

Edit: didn’t look at his stats, maybe he’s not good, just saw the UNLV fans on Twitter thinking the season was ruined

Edit2: bad completion percentage but good yards per completion and decent per attempt. Big thing is he’s running for 80+ yards per game. 1200+ rushing each of the last two years

He’s mainly a running QB, no future as an NFL QB. He’s trying to make his money while he can, and only got one season of eligibility left. Can’t say I blame him. This is what college sports is all about now. Make the most $$ you can

Don’t disagree, but he also made a promise to the university to play football. If he’s healthy and refusing, I’d pull his scholarship, stop all forms of NIL payments, and consider a request for reimbursements if I’m UNLV.

kids and parents are fully aware of the 4 game/redshirt rule. Players that don't get what they are promised (playing time and money) and that don't play much, are asking for redshirts to extend their shelf life and nil opportunities.

Again another unattended consequence of all this. However in this particular case, I don't blame the guy if he isn't getting what he was promised.

They could take a bite out of tampering if they flagged sus cases and gave them the show cause treatment.

I guess he has to stay in school to keep on track academically to be eligible to play next season. I bet he catches hell the next two months.

Time to bring all the NIL in-house into the athletic departments and sign these kids to contracts. You don't fulfill your side of the contract, you can be sued. And the 4-game redshirt rule is complete bullsh!t.
I think redshirting may be on the way out anyway other than medical ones.

Good luck with that.

A co-worker, whose Son plays in the acc, said when it gets close to portal time, his son gets unsolicited calls from other schools and/or their collectives. Point being, I think more than half the players would get a show cause.

Don't know if he had eye popping stats at Holy Cross and don't care to look. But this is going to become more common. These smaller to mid level FBS schools are going to feast on the FCS players as they rightly should.

Cam Ward put up huge numbers at Incarnate Word and has now gotten big money from both Wazzou and Miami.

If he hadn't been 30 years too early for this, there's no telling where Steven McNair would have played after getting poached from Alcorn.

I think this is happening pretty soon from what I hear.

It better. Or else we've got $8,000,000 parked in a place we can't use it. I think the plan everywhere is for this to happen next year. But a balky judge not approving a settlement agreement could cause problems.

Here's dudes stats from Holy Cross. Seems his value is in his running...but how the 17 do you rush for 1200 yards and not score a TD?

Dont know if it was said here.. but its being reported by the UNLV rumor mill that ALL of the NIL promises were paid in full. But after the 3 game start, his family hired an agent. He then went to the head coach, demanded more money due to his play... was told that was impossible.. he then quit and redshirted.

Agent supposedly told family that he could earn more money next year than he was getting this season from UNLV.

I hate the modern era.
Let's just go straight 5 years, and no redshirts of any kind, including medical, asap.
Also, CBA asap, plus salary caps.

I can't believe I'm saying that last sentence.
I hate the modern era.

It was happenign before NIL. Houston basically quit on a season a few years back. QB amongst others shut it down after game 4 after a poor start
