@Tom McAndrew @LOCOPSU

You may recall our oldest daughter decided to attend Miami University in Oxford, OH on scholarship. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa last May in three years. Yesterday, we received a wonderful letter that literally changed our family's lives if that's possible. She has been accepted to the Indiana University School of Medicine. Over the years on Premium, Plotit, BWI/McAndrew and now on On3, I've shared a few personal stories but I have to say this is indescribable for my wife and I. When I looked at the letter and then at her beaming, I started remembering my daughter as a small shy child and literally her life began to replay before my eyes. I have tears in my eyes thinking about it. Anyway, she's waiting on more schools but she's going to med school and I think I'm still drunk on happiness this morning.

Congratulations! I'm several years behind you w my daughter applying to college now hoping to go pre-med - whether it's med school or something else, hope to be having similar "feels" some day ... :)

thanks @BobPSU92. Did you catch my note the other day about my scones? First time making them and they are outstanding. I couldn't believe my luck. We are GF so it was tricky with the flour but great with coffee.

I missed your post. Link?

Your life will never be the same now that you‘ve experienced quality scones with coffee. o_O

Congrats. It is sort of a surreal experience seeing your children achieve success as adults. My oldest daughter is in the process of narrowing down her options for med school as well. She prefers the osteopathic schools at this point. She has a couple of interviews for MD schools coming up so we’ll see where she ultimately ends up. On the other hand, I was surprised when I was accepted into community college.

@ApexLion -- such wonderful news. Over the years, we've conversed both on the board and via PMs about your daughters. It appears that she was able to keep her focus on the bigger picture. Congratulations to her on her accomplishments, and congratulations to your wife and to you.

I’ll tell a story about that medical school, I believe one of the largest in the country.
My wife and I have gone to ND football games; literally right outside the campus on Notre Dame Avenue is an Indiana Medical school building.
I asked a friend whose kids went to ND about that facility, and she said that so many ND kids wanted to be doctors that IU Medical School put a satellite campus right there.

Congrats Apex!

I've also had my fair share of tears of joy due to two boys.

Youngest graduated with his MDiv from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary a year ago, and is now working on a Masters/Doctorate which he may use to teach in an overseas seminary.

Oldest son had some issues along the way, but was always a hard worker from the time he went out shoveling snow in middle school and wore down the snowshovel my grandfather had given me years before in a few days, until he began working for Pitt eventually coordinating the flu study for the Pittsburgh area for UPMC/CDC. Then a couple of months ago finally got his big break when he left Pitt to work for a company that performs and oversees clinical trials for drug companies as a Clinical Trial Project Manager, for multiples of his former salary.

Children really are the gift that keeps on giving !!!

Congrats. I spoke to one of my sons friends who attended med school with him and is now finishing his residency at IUs med school. It was his second choice 4 1/2 years ago but he told me he has enjoyed his experience and feels good about the education and experience he received at the school in Indianapolis.

Have a friend in Annville, whose son graduated from IU about two years ago. He loved it, and is now in an ENT residency at UK. Best wishes.
One of my daughter’s shared a nannying gig for an ENT at UK this summer.
All of my daughter's brains are from mom. Guaranteed.
Not only is that true in my case, she’s also had to overcome the negative effect of my contribution to the gene pool.

I love this Apex. As the father of a couple kids myself, this brought a smile to my face thinking that someday my kiddo(s) could be in the same position. Nice to hear of good things like this happening in a world seemingly filled with bad news. Congrats!!

Congratulations for your daughter. I had many friends and relatives graduate from Miami and my brother in law is in an executive administrator there. It is also nice to know if one has been accepted to med school and also maybe have a choice in which one go to if accepted to more than one. It takes a lot of pressure off you.

Back in the day most interviews were not even conducted until after the holidays. I was accepted to two schools, so I had a choice. During that time you were most likely accepted to a school in your own state of residence. Acceptance rate was 30% of applicants, less than that if you were a Caucasian male as there was a huge push to have females make a larger portion of classes. My sister had a way easier time than I did with a lower GPA and lower MCAT scores. Now being a female is not really an advantage as most medical school classes are about 50/50 male/female with a larger pool of female applicants than male applicants making more difficult for women to get accepted.

Sorry for the tardiness of this post. Thought I had posted this awhile ago. For some reason I never hit the post button.

Awesome stuff, Apex! Congrats! That is quite the feeling to get that news of being accepted into med school. My wife and I were on Cloud 9 for about an entire week straight after my daughter got the same kind of news.

Does your daughter know what kind of medicine she wants to get into?

@Omar81

2 cups Almond Flour
1/4 cup gf flour (potato) for rolling pin
1/4 cup granulated cane sugar
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
4 Tbs. butter half melted
2 large eggs
3/4 cup yogurt, dairy or non-dairy
semi-sweet chocolate chips as many as you want

gently fold in ingredients to flour

create dough ball, dust with flour, roll it out with flour slowly - its going to be wetter than regular dough, cut pie wedges as best you can, sprinkle with fine sugar, I used regular sugar and it worked well

preheat and cook 400 for 10-12 minutes

crusty outside, moist inside
