Oh, and seeing all the Euro contracts those guys have just confirms that for our supposed star, Donovan is scared of competition.

He was among the 33 players called into camp. Maybe he'll be on the roster for 1 or both of the remaining games.

As much as I agree with you about Donovan, I've got to give him credit that he's played well in some fairly tough friendlies lately (as well as in last year's Gold Cup).

you can watch a foreign language broadcast of the game on channelsurfing.net (or .com - don't remember which).

I've got a Asian edition. Can't understand a thing, but at least I am getting to watch the game.

We don't look very good - from what I've seen.

I really don't understand Bradley's love affair with Ricardo Clark.

Maybe my dislike of the guy is exaggerated, but it seems like when the lights are brightest he just disappears.

I think the video on the Asian station was better.

Man, we look like crap for the most part.

As often as Donovan disappears and does nothing on the field for long periods of time, I think it is clear that we are nowhere near the quality of team without him as we are with him playing!

I love the fact that we scheduled these three games, but if we aren't going to get a better effort from the team what is the point?

Honestly, what did you expect? When you're playing a team that's a lot better than you are, you're not going to look good.

I was hoping for more of an effort like the one we had against Brazil last year. We lost, but we played well and actually looked like we belonged on the same field as one of the best teams in the world

Today, it was pretty obvious that we were outclassed. At times it looked like they had 12 or 13 men on the field. We were a step (or two) slow and had a miserable time trying to maintain possession.

And the frustrating thing to me is that I considered this the "easiest" of the three games so I was more hopeful of a positive result.

Brazil was on US soil. Today's match was in England. That's huge in soccer. Also, Brazil doesn't always play great defense and sometimes takes matches off.

I understand your point, but we looked absolutely horrible. Although, I can still hold out hope that our atrocious lineup had something to do with it. Maybe when we play who we should be playing, we'll look like we belong.

Honestly, why the ++!@ are Johnson and Wolff starting?

I haven't seen the game yet, so I may completely agree with y'all after I do. But the score doesn't look any worse than I expected it to. Of course, in soccer, sometimes the score doesn't tell the whole story.

I'm more of a casual fan but when you look at the good teams there is a flow around the goal that gives them a chance to score. We cannot seem to figure that out. It looks like a total cluster17 around the goal.

U.S. players have just never had the imagination around the goal that Europeans, Brazilians, and Argentinians have. As the quality of play in youth leagues has gotten better, this problem is slowly getting better at the national team level. But it's still a problem.

That's one thing that I feel should improve as we continue to play against stiffer competition. Goals don't come easy against these teams, so hopefully our guys will figure out ways to score against top notch teams in the next 24 months.

Not without looking at the midfield and their lack of effort today! It will be easy to dog the two attackers but the midfield made little to no effort to help them out tonight.

I expected a lot better. I don't think England is a lot better than we are. I've always been optimistic regarding the US team and was hoping for an upset win...I was hoping that England wasn't paying much attention to the game. It looked like the US decided not to worry about this one! Did these guys even train together prior to the game?

That was a dreadful performance and we will have to (1) have Donovan on the field and (2) find some team chemistry if we want to aviod being smacked around by Spain and Argentina.

Trust me on this. England IS a lot better than we are, but the gap is a lot less than it was a decade ago. And with them not qualifying for Euro 2008, this was the biggest game on their schedule this summer. No way they were going to overlook this one. They were playing for vindication today.

Edited to add: For a little perspective on the talent gap between the U.S. and England, just count how many players they have that play for (and are stars for) Manchester United and Chelsea. Then look at the U.S. roster where we have players sitting the bench for Fulham or playing in lesser leagues. That may sound a little harsh, but that's the facts. U.S. soccer is much better than it was 10 years ago and in 10 years it will be much better than it is now. But for now, there's still a big talent gap between the U.S. and the stronger European countries and Argentina and Brazil. It's not as big of a gap as it used to be, but it's still big.
