USA skater Erin Jackson is the #1 world ranked 500m skater. She stumbled and missed out on a spot on the US Olympic team the other day (only 2 US skaters go. She came in 3rd).

She had the best interview I’ve seen from an athlete in such a situation. In this day of ‘it’s all about me’ and Antonio Brown type drama she was a breath of fresh air at the moment of her greatest disappointment. Link shows the 2 races and her interview at 7:05.

It was announced today that her teammate Brittany Bowe (who came in 1st in the 500m) gave up her spot so Erin Jackson could go to the Olympics. Bowe qualified in other events as well. Speaks very highly of these 2. Will be rooting like hell for both of them in a few weeks.

In these days of sometimes selfish and egotistical athletes, it’s nice to see some good news and athletes like these 2 get some recognition.

The way she did that interview, it’s as if she already knew someone would give up their spot for her. She didn’t seemed phased at all.

I know but the interview was actually a day or 2 before the other skater announced she was giving up her spot.

I was impressed when the interviewer said “so you think it’s an unfair rule?” (not getting a re skate since no fall) and she said ‘no it’s definitely on me. It’s my fault. ‘ She didn’t whine or complain but accepted responsibility. Watching it live it hit me as being so honest/ mature (especially as it was around the time of Antonio Brown’s meltdown for comparison).

I didn’t know much about her before this, but I’m a big fan now.

Agreed. Impressed with her owning but and at the same time annoyed by someone in the media trying to put words into her mouth which would have made for a better headline.

Both of these young women have class and that never gets old.

She should have hired someone to take out the knees of the 2 who finished in front of her.

Jan. 6 is a great day in history.
