Gamecock nation traveled well and proud. Seemed like a home game for y’all, very impressive. Impressed with the effort of the team. You guys had a lot of missing pieces, important pieces and came to play. You did what a outmanned team had to do to stay in the game. And what a fun and entertaining game it was.

I watched the game at home in NJ. But I’ve talked with friends who went and they have not said a single unflattering word about your fanbase.

Good luck next year. FYI, I’ve been vacationing in Hilton Head for over 20 years now and was just down there in early December. I was also there in June. I pull for y’all over Clemson. I loathe orange.

Semper Fi and Go Irish….

I was in a tailgate lot (touchdown club) with what seemed like several thousand gamecock fans and one big family of ND fans who happend to be right next to us. Hung out with them for several hours. Good people and very hospitable.

And @Cocky99 thanks, if you ever have a chance to see a game at ND do it, it’s just a different feel than most campuses I’ve been to, except Annapolis and West Point. I’ve had the pleasure to see games at Tennessee, Penn State, U$C, UCLA, San Diego, UPenn, Princeton, Annapolis, West Point, several NFL stadiums and Ireland. Which I’m doing again this year. Notre Dame is unique, not better just different.

Here’s to another home and home between the Cocks and Irish, last one was late 70’s early 80’s. In 1984 the Cocks were the #11 team in the nation came into ND and won 36-32, made all the way to #2 and lost to Navy in the last game of the season. The Cocks had a legit chance for a championship ring that year.

I love the state of South Carolina, especially the HHI area. Good luck in 23

Most Notre Dame fans I encountered were ok folks, but on the row right in front of us were some of the trashiest, foul mouth, Jersey type folks that I've ever seen. I'd hedge bets they've never seen the inside of a college classroom.

Now why’d you have to diss Jersey? Could be NY or Philly or even Ohio which is the worst…. That’s just mean! Remember that stupid Jersey shore show, none absolutely none of those morons were from NJ. Also North Jersey is night and day different from South Jersey. I grew up in beautiful and historic Camden NJ. Home of the best Cheese Steak in the Philadelphia area

Cheese steaks are great, but if you are ever in the south Jersey Philly area also try the hot roast pork sandwich with broccoli rabe, extra sharp provolone and long hots. This is literally heaven on a roll. By the way boiled peanuts are terrible.

Everyone has trashy-@$$ed fans. I come from a family in which the branches have largely lost touch with one another. On the one hand, I regret that. On the other, I'm not eager to pursue things to an extent that diminishes my opinion of my family. Inevitably, that would happen if my research persisted. @KWSUSMC , I appreciate those comments.

I parked in lot X, a ND group next to us. We had a great time talking football with them, nothing to dislike about them at all! After the game we congratulated each other on an exciting Gator Bowl, and wished each other good luck. I had ZERO issues with any ND fans I encountered. I’m one of those that don’t want none, don’t start none type, especially as I’ve aged.

Yes, but in everything except Hockey (B16G) and Football (Ind) with the new playoffs set I don’t see the Irish joining a conference. But if ND is forced to, it will probably be the ACC.

Here is a good explanation of why,

That meeting was in ‘76. A 13-6 loss for the Cocks. Gerald Ford in attendance. Alcohol was so outwardly present that local authorities vowed to clamp down…… in hindsight we can now see how that went😂

Earlier classic battles were between Johnny Dee’s Austin Carr led teams & McGuire’s John Roche……..later Frank would battle the Digger.

Did he win a National Championship? ND won 2 in the 70’s. 1973 vs Undefeated Bear lead Bama team in an all time classic on NYE with the famous Monday Night Football crew calling the game. The Irish prevailed 24-23, a game with like 7 lead changes.

Then in 1977, the Irish vs the unstoppable force of Earl Campbell and the undefeated Texas Longhorns. ND crushed them…. 38-10.

During my lifetime (the Super Bowl era) the Irish have won 4 National Championships 1966, 1973, 1977, 1988. The Irish have also played for/finished #2 or made playoffs in 1970, 1989, 1993, 2012, 2018, 2020.

Where I grew up and live, it’s first and primarily a Pro sports area. Mostly the Philadelphia teams Eagles Phillies 6ers Flyers. For CFB it’s a heavily catholic area but it’s a mixed bag of fandoms. ND, P$U, Pitt, O$U, UM, Miami and to the least extent Rutgers.

Thanks for the kind words. Except for the last 5 minutes or so, this was a great game.
Please do us a favor and beat the Tigers next year in Memorial Stadium.
I think Clemson is coming back to the pack some. They are still a very good team. But for 5 or 6 years they were elite and right there with Bama. All things change, there are signs the ugly Orange is diminishing.

Hopefully it goes something like this

He was on the '77 team. John Thomas. Lives in Greensboro now. Helluva a good guy and while ND is his first love, he likes the Gamecocks, too.

I've found most fan bases are pretty decent people overall, even clemson. I've noticed most people who complain about opposing fans only do so after their team loses.

My wife and I have not been to a home game since the season opener in 1984 - the Citadel. I live a considerable distance from Columbia and so dropping by for a game is not easy. I had just got married earlier that year and wanted to show my wife real football - my Dad got us great seats through a friend - only problem were they were in the Citadel section. It took be about five minutes to almost get in a fight - with a young
graduate - as I was also at the time. After getting beer thrown her - my wife said she would never come back to a game - and we haven't. It was an awful game and we barely won - little did we know it would be the start of the Black Magic season. Multiple lessons learned. My wife has endured many home games on TV where I have
thrown my Topsider's at the screen.

Agree, I have been to all SEC stadiums except TAM, Missouri and Arky, and never had a bad experience, including @UF in 2010 when we won the East.

Every school has its bad apples, majority are there to enjoy the game.

Credit to Beamer and company for keeping this game close

View attachment 293050
Beamer, and most of our fans knew we were going in with less talent. You don’t lose both starting corners, your best interior DL, a starting DE, your starting right tackle, three of four TE’s, best
RB, two of your best WR, and think you’re as good as you were a month earlier vs Clempsun. ND was missing a few key players as well. The three TD’s South Carolina scored with the offense on the sideline kept this game close! Having stated that, the Gator Bowl was one of the better 2022 bowl games. Certainly one if the best attended, and loudest. The 100 yard TD return, that crowd was as loud as Williams Brice stadium on a Saturday Night. Wish we would have won, but I enjoyed the trip, game, and my interactions with ND fans. Im not making excuses, as ND may have won the game with Carolina at full strength. I do think we’d have had a better chance with the ten starters that opted out, or transferred though.

Good points and perspective. As you noted South Carolina was without several starters. You did note ND was missing some key pieces too. But I don’t think most know who and how significant these missing pieces are/were

TE Mayer, NDs all time TE TD leader 2 time consensus All American and leading receiver in 2021-22. At TE U.

DE Foskey NDs all time sack leader passing Justin Tuck. Consensus All American

DT Jayson Ademolia NDs #2 sack leader and best DT

QB Pyne 8-2 starter.

S Brandon Joseph one of the Irish’s top DBs

C starting corner Morrison went down late in 1st half. NDs best corner.

Buchner who started the bowl game has only 3 starts since 2019 (HS) and only finished two those games. He has thrown half as many pick 6’s (3) as TDs (6).

is an exciting option at QB. His running skills are ELITE for a QB. His passing has shown bright flashes both good and bad. His courage in the breech, willingness to take a big hit to get off a throw is more than noteworthy. He had three game changing throws that helped soften up the U$Cjr defense. The bomb to Lenzy off his back foot for a TD. The deep out to Thomas for a first down and the hitch out of the backfield to Diggs, not a particularly difficult throw, but a throw put exactly where it needed to be and on time to allow him to keep his speed to edge and eventually to the end zone. Plus a couple other very good throws.

His career stats are

6 TDs, 8 ints (3pick6’s), 950 yards, 56.8%

I just saw Burch is in the portal. He really showed out to me, dude was all over the field. Is Oregon the pick? That’s a tough loss.

Hartman is a nice pick up at QB. Will he replace Buchner?

He definitely has the inside lane. ACCs all time leading TD passer. 5 year’s collegiate experience. I’m very excited by this pick up. Buchner is potential, he has some elite skills. Unfortunately he has been injury prone with ACL, ankle and shoulder this plus Covid has lead to him only starting 3 games (finishing 2) since 2019.

As I stated he has half as many pick 6’s (3) as TDs (6). Career passing numbers are 6 TDs 8 ints for less than a thousand yards. He is an elite runner for a QB. ND needed to get a QB in, one as good as Hartman is phenomenal. I hope Buchner gets some good quality reps in 2023. Not a platoon or some package but real reps. How this can be done is tricky though and above my pay grade.

I had three trashy gamecocks in front of me. Worst I've ever seen. Fortunately, there were 53,176 other classy Gamecock fans there.
We all have them. I had three Gamecock kids (20’s) to my left. All, including a female that had no seat, and sat in her boyfriends lap, were inebriated beyond the point. The female, got up at least 15 times, either to get another beer or to ‘get rid of some beer’. Her last trip back up the stairs, I had to stop her to show her where her friends were sitting. My middle son told her as she walked by that time that “they sucked”. He was R I G H T!

Will Buchner stay or transfer if Hartman takes the job?
