Will Buchner stay or transfer if Hartman takes the job?
Don’t know for certain but I think he stays. He’ll graduate next year and have 2 years of eligibility left after 2023.

NDs QB room for 2023
Hartman 6th yr senior
Buchner RS Jr 3 year’s eligibility
Angelli RS Soph 4yrs eligibility
Minchey true freshman 4yrs eligibility
Commit CJ Carr 2024

Good points and perspective. As you noted South Carolina was without several starters. You did note ND was missing some key pieces too. But I don’t think most know who and how significant these missing pieces are/were

TE Mayer, NDs all time TE TD leader 2 time consensus All American and leading receiver in 2021-22. At TE U.

DE Foskey NDs all time sack leader passing Justin Tuck. Consensus All American

DT Jayson Ademolia NDs #2 sack leader and best DT

QB Pyne 8-2 starter.

S Brandon Joseph one of the Irish’s top DBs

C starting corner Morrison went down late in 1st half. NDs best corner.

Buchner who started the bowl game has only 3 starts since 2019 (HS) and only finished two those games. He has thrown half as many pick 6’s (3) as TDs (6).

is an exciting option at QB. His running skills are ELITE for a QB. His passing has shown bright flashes both good and bad. His courage in the breech, willingness to take a big hit to get off a throw is more than noteworthy. He had three game changing throws that helped soften up the U$Cjr defense. The bomb to Lenzy off his back foot for a TD. The deep out to Thomas for a first down and the hitch out of the backfield to Diggs, not a particularly difficult throw, but a throw put exactly where it needed to be and on time to allow him to keep his speed to edge and eventually to the end zone. Plus a couple other very good throws.

His career stats are

6 TDs, 8 ints (3pick6’s), 950 yards, 56.8%

I just saw Burch is in the portal. He really showed out to me, dude was all over the field. Is Oregon the pick? That’s a tough loss.
We were without 10 starters and 1 backup who may have well have been one cause he was a big part of our team. Thats a bunch from the Clemsux game to the bowl. Basically half the starters. Your Qb Pyne being out was a blessing, not a detriment. He only got that job when your starter got hurt.

It went about as figured as your oline was the difference. Great game to watch until it ended.

I mostly agree. Especially with Pyne. However as I’ve said, Buchner had two starts coming into the bowl game. Two starts and one complete game since 2019. This year he had 111 days in between starts. That’s not exactly optimal, is it!

ND missing Foskey, Ademolia the two top sack and TFL leaders on ND was significant add in starting safety Joesph and best corner Morrison who went down early and that’s major components for the Irish defense. I realize and acknowledge your missing pieces.

Buchner played fantastic and was also a major reason you were in this game. With Pyne I think ND doesn’t hit those deep shots in the pass game and he does not possess the athleticism to stress your defense with his legs, especially to the perimeter. If Pyne played I see the game playing out more like the other game vs U$C. That one a 11 point Irish loss. But we’ll never know, Pyne did lead the stomping of Clemson but ND was +2 in turnovers and had a blocked punt for a TD and a pick 6. Rushing yards were similar against Clemson and you.

I was at Hilton Head Distillery and had boiled peanuts for the first and probably last time. I did NOT like the texture of the treat. Much much prefer roasted. As far as communist NOPE, I’m a proud staunch conservative capitalist pro 2A with a bend to libertarian on social issues.
Brings back a funny memory. About 40 years ago (when yankees were rare in my part of SC), I had an older retired couple from Brockton, Ma move in next to me. The man was a cool, hilarious codger that embraced the southern cuisine, and fit right in. The wife was the opposite. Anyway, boiled up a batch of peanuts for them to try as they had never even heard of them before. Ole Burt chowed down on them and loved'em. The wife tried one and from the look on her face, you would have thought she bit into a dog turd. Not sure I have ever laughed that hard, and am laughing as I am typing this.

They moved back up north, the wife couldn't take the summers down here. Hadn't thought about them in years and hated to see them go.

I think the rush game was expected. We have given up a ton this year. I think your ability to hit big pass plays was the difference. Our fill in DBs got out of position and allowed a small play to turn into a game changer. Dline did their best but your oline wore them down.

I agree…. But I think not just the big pass plays but also Buchners running ability also loosened up the interior run defense. The LBers/safeties couldn’t fly to fill gaps where the RB was headed, DE/OLBer couldn’t wantonly crash the back. So Buchner got the edge several times for big plays. However can’t be discounted his passing also loosened up the defense. Four huge plays, TD bomb to Lenzy #0, Deep out to Thomas #83, swing pass to Diggs #3 for TD and another swing pass to flat for w critical 1st down to #25.

Buchner besides his two rushing TDs, picked up 2 important 1st downs on sneaks. One a 3rd & 4 up the middle, the other a 4th down sneak were he sneaked around the edge on the last drive.

As I said, my and all my fellow Irish posters on the home board were very much impressed with the play and fan support of U$C. Hope a home and home is scheduled sometime. ND has played Tennessee a lot, has a home and home with aTm, Bama and Arkansas coming up, just played UGA and Vandy.

The wife and I absolutely love and embrace low country life. The humidity in the summer is really something else. But you can get used to and around that. We have talked about moving down to HHI or Bluffton or Beaufort area, but it all depends on where our two boys end boys end up at. However even if we don’t move down we’ll absolutely continue to visit often.

As for boiled peanuts, the texture got me. I’ve only ever eaten roasted peanuts. I much prefer them.
