Was Clifford hurt today or just sick?

When he left the game it appeared he was favoring a shoulder after falling on a run attempt. Does anyone know if he injured himself today, or did he exit the game because of his illness and inability to perform? Of course the big question is about next week and whether he is healthy enough to get the start, or does CV start instead based upon him being healthier and having played well against Rutgers. Or does Clifford start but get put on a short leash next week?

I think it was questionable whether he could go today according to Franklin's halftime interview. Then with one of his runs he injured his leg or side not sure. Also not sure if it was an aggravation of the same injury or different. Nevertheless, he was hurt and walked himself into the injury tent. Franklin will go with Clifford for MSU if he is cleared to play.

Care to tell me differently? Hack, traces senior year was messy, Clifford?
Physically yes but all were mentally strong, the only problems with these 3 is they refused to take a breather when hurt, good for perception of leadership but hurts a team overall
A good example would be Clifford not hitting a wide open Meiga , or Jahan on his TD.

Sounds mental?

Look, for whatever reason our qbs have traditionally regressed and become injured as their time as starter has gone on. Designed runs, offensive line being inadequate, coaching, I dont know, but records get worse and injuries increase the longer they stay. Hack, trace and Clifford has their best years earlier and become mental and physical wrecks in their last season. Maybe its just unlucky?

During the senior introductions, Clifford walked to greet his parents. Nearly everyone else jogged. And I never saw him in warm-ups. Only CV. I'm guessing he never should have played. And be it sickness or injury or both, his limited play reflected that.

So putting aside most of the responses above, the consensus is that he sustained some sort of injury, or reinjury, in addition to him being sick, and the likelihood of him starting against MSU is dependent upon how well he recovers during the week. Right?

Franklin said in his press conference that they told Clifford to sleep in and skip the team breakfast. Then he was getting IV fluids during pre game warm up and missed that too.

Franklin said that Christian V was sick too and they weren’t sure he was going to be able to play either until this morning.

Same with the Illinois game. What an awful game.

If you can draw an accurate conclusion front the post game PC, he was sick.
He obviously looked banged up, but he left because he was Ill.

I think Clifford is hurting a lot worse than he or Franklin would admit. He starts the game looking healed, but
his first sack or hit reboots the injury. Maybe broken ribs or shoulder injury, add the flu on top of that and it sucks, i know when i have the flu getting up for a glass of water is a chore.

Kudos to Cliff, CV made quicker decisions yesterday, it showed. Makes Michigan St. think who's starting.

Thank you CRB, Sean is a very tough youngster and he has been through a load of issues with OC changes, injuries and this game Sean and thirty other players were down with IV’s, not practicing this past week, etc

Correct..CRB…kudos to Sean…👍🏻👍🏻

+1 I can only imagine what it’s like to be puking your guts out with bruised or broken ribs.

I cannot believe that Penn State would permit Sean to play with broken ribs. I believe that his health has to be cleared by the team medical staff. broken ribs I think would be a disqualifier. maybe bruised ribs, maybe shoulder, etc. some of these he could be "cleared" to play, but does not mean he can be effective at this level. he has been hit a lot since the Iowa injury, and has not looked even close to where we have seen him. TFrank did a very nice job breaking down Sean's play before and after the injury at Iowa.

Throw in zack mills. Though we ran MRob and Clark a lot and both stayed relatively healthy.
mills was a shell of his earlier self by the end. i thought qb-killing would end with joepa but like linebacker u (unfortunately not running back u), it's a tradition that appears to be woven into the fabric of navy blue and white.

that is such a penn state thing. it is so unfortunately true.

Yeah, he is a tough tough kid, I really like Clifford. I think if we had a little more stability on the Offensive coaching side of the ball and tried to make Clifford more of a pocket guy and less of a running threat his career would have gone differently. After Trace, we were focused on turning our QB's into whatever Trace was, running back/ back yard ball slinger, suck the defense up, throw over the top. Trace was special at that, but even he was physically broken and unsure mentally by his senior year. I'll never forget him just running out of bounce on 4th down against Michigan State at home when we were trailing...he was just done. I suspect the same future awaits CV9 and Allar unless something philosophically changes on the offensive side of the ball. I like our tempo early in the year and we really had CLifford going through progressions and keeping his eyes downfield, as the season has worn on we have reverted back to QB draws(crazy against Michigan with a clearly hurt QB) and letting defenses dictate to our offense. A competent running game sure would help, there should be no world in which Sean Clifford should lead the teams in carries like last year.

I'm not sure that this been brought up in any other threads but what if we were playing Michigan or tOSU a week before their rivalry game and our team passed on the flu to either team? The B1G would probably throw us out of the conference.
