I don't know what this accomplishes. It makes me think they wanted to remove the possibility of the team making a run and making it harder to fire him.

At 7-14, we were less than 50-50 to make the tournament, but 3-3 vs. Kentucky/Ole Miss and a sweep of Missouri would at least have us sweating out the committee.
We need to have it done before the portal opens. Would be really hard to do that without starting before the season is over. May still be hard depending on who our preferred target is, but there was no benefit to waiting and some benefit to going ahead.

Don't disagree that it needed to be done before the end of the season, especially so an official search can begin. But can you imagine what this place is going to be like if we don't have a guy in place in 4-5-6 weeks after the firing. That's a realistic possibility. If we waited 2 weeks, that window of not having a coach might shorten and help prevent the meltdown that is to come if we don't name a guy until after the Supers.

Why does it matter if SPS and anyone else in the fanbase has a meltdown because it takes to long to name a coach? If the AD is worried about us internet warriors being impatient, he should be fired as well.

In the big scheme it may not matter at all. I'm sure its going to be insufferable here. And the rest of the fanbase that cares about baseball is likely to get more vocal as the weeks go by. Almost everyone (and not just SPS) was losing it over a 2 week search for a football coach. This is likely going to be 2 or 3 times that long. 2 differences though, the fashion for football is higher and the folks that do follow baseball should know a good candidate is not going to be available as soon as the season is over.
