NOW, can we find a way to eliminate the polls and the committees? Settle it on the field. Expand it, take in or totally eliminate conferences. Eliminate the beauty contest entirely. Either that or go back to the old bowl system, and make it a total beauty contest. This crap trying to paper over the flaws is stupid.

The ideal system would be one of the "Super League" proposals of around 70 teams, fit into neat geographic divisions of historic rivals, and an objective way to determine who does and doesn't move on to the playoffs, no more committee.

Somebody's gotta figure out how to make that attractive financially so that the conferences agree to merge into it.

This playoff is one the best things to happen to college football in a long time. I like it exactly at 12 because it makes the season matter.

You have to win or you're out.

However you're right. Boise State will be ranked around 10. But a number of 3 loss sec and B1G teams would whip them.

Im nit sure how you fix that other than requiring the G5s to play at least one, P4 team in a OOC game during the season.

8 13-team conferences. 12 conference games. 4 post season tournaments. All 1’s play for NC. 2’s play each other in “bowl” game tournament. 3’s do the same and 4’s do the same. The rest start their breaks early. Who cares if the 5th best team in any conference doesn’t get a chance? They had a chance when they played their 12 game schedule throughout the season. Know it won’t happen but that’s how you remove rankings and such from the equation.

Meh. A committee will get it about as right as any computer would. It really doesn’t matter much anyway. There’s only about 4 teams with a real chance to win it.
There’s no other option besides a committee. Not sure what OP wants. You can’t break it out into divisions like the NFL, because there’s no constraints to keep parity. College schedules are not equal.

L4 is just yelling at clouds.

We have to whittle 134 teams down to 12. That cannot be done objectively with the current conference setup, and even if we somehow threw out the conferences and reorganized into divisions and the like, there would eventually be a tiebreaker that caused disagreement by placing too much or too little emphasis on strength of schedule.

And are we then going to reorganize basketball, baseball, and every other sport to try to remove subjectivity.

Plus, the fans seem to prefer teams having second chances in football. They want the second or third place team from a tough conference to still have a chance to come back and win it all.

I’d just like a committte that really thinks thru things. Like a teams conference SOS. Or who they played OOC. Because looking at a stat like game control that includes games against Mercer or Furman or Eastern Ky is maddening.

I’m terrified at how these championship games are going to baffle these idiots. Like is Georgia out if they lose? but TN is in? I’m scared they can’t handle that type of analysis.

Agree with you. Main thing is just to get the top 5-6 teams in, the rest is just luck.

You’re overthinking it. There’s no way to get the “right” 12 teams in the playoff because opinions differ & computer algorithms (which are only as good as the people who designed them) differ. No matter how you select the teams, about 10 will be easy with maybe 1 or 2 that people will overhype a “controversy” over. As for your second paragraph why wouldn’t a committee be able to handle Georgia losing? Georgia will be in win or lose. As Will Tennessee.

But Georgia may not be. We don’t know that. I’ve seen one pundit say some Georgia fans aren’t sold. We have never really had this kind of debate. Obviously they should be in win or lose but that’s why I said I’m scared they can’t do handle that math.

I’m not asking for the “right 12”. I’m asking for a better analysis from the committee in getting to their 12. Bc so far it looks like they just look at the loss column.

You havent even seen their analysis & you’re asking for better? Georgia will be in with a loss in the championship game. They’re not going to punish teams for finishing #2 in the SEC.

I know Texas is number 3. Nothing merits a number 3 ranking. I know bama over Miami was the only instance of a team with more losses being ahead of another team. That tells me a lot. I know theh look at game control which includes all 12 games which is silly

Who else you going to put at #3? There’s only 2 teams out there with clearly better resumes.

Georgia, ND and TN all had a ranked win last week. TX has zero. Florida likely gives them One this week now

The least likely program to make the playoffs EVER has its fans debating on a message board about how the participants are selected to be in said playoffs! I can guarantee you one damn thing. A team that hasn't hired a non-over-the-hill sitting HC and only thinks they can pull Coordinators and Running Backs Coaches ain't never gonna have to worry about the PLAYOFFS!

Georgia has had a demanding schedule. They may have a question at quarterback, but they will play well in the playoffs because they have a harder schedule.
