But we don't have the proper people in place to do that or to make any good decisions if they were to nut up and admit their mistake.

If I had seen anything that made me even a little hopeful about Lebby developing into a good SEC HC, I'd agree completely with keeping him (which we're doing anyway).
I just think he's not the guy and we're going to give him 3 or 4 years to prove it. And that won't make our job any more attractive than firing him now.

He's really the first coach we truly searched for (yeah right) and hired after our last real HC passed on. Arnett shouldn't count.

If we fire him on Friday after the Egg Bowl, we’re going to have a crappy pool of candidates to choose from. And we’re going to make a hire that can’t win here long-term.

All of the above is inevitable, because as soon as college football became nothing more than a fundraising competition, it sealed MSU’s fate moving forward. And even before that happened….we had nothing but crappy coaching candidates to choose from every time….outside of the one time that Mike Leach threw his name in the hat. We can’t even get any G5 guys to take us seriously at this point.

But in a weird way it was okay bc we knew Sly was gone. I remember being pissed when he managed to knock off Arkansas the week before and thinking we'd rationalize keeping him another year.
We absolutely did not. We had a loud segment of fans that wanted to give Crooms another year because he made a damn bowl game and “you kaint fahr a coach one year from winning a dadgum bowl game”.
His firing was totally unexpected and was the first time that an AD at MSU had ever made a big boy decision
We weren’t making a bowl game in 2008 you stupid mother 17er. And nobody cared about the year before. There were signs all over V-H calling to fire Croom. He was as awful as Lebby is now.
