We must fire Lebby now…..

He’s not going to slam him publicly especially since they are friends outside of football (which is an epic mistake on his part to hire him in the first place)
And that's fine. Just stop insulting our intelligence by expressing confidence in a staff that's sporting one of the worst defenses in the history of State athletics.

Again, all he needs to do here and tell fans that he's going to address what needs to be addressed after the season. The more he keeps telling us that talent is the only issue, the less confidence I have in him to make the hard decisions that a head coach is paid to make

This is an absolutely insane take.
I’m not thrilled with how the season went. It sucked in a big way. There have to be changes, no doubt about that.
But the idea that you’re going to fire a second straight coach after one year, pay all those buyouts on top of what you’re already paying, and then expect to be able to a) entice a new coach and b) put together any sort of competitive roster for the next guy, it’s just complete fantasy. We already can’t afford basic crap like a functioning stadium sound system.
We’re not paying anything close to the buyouts of other SEC / P4 programs. Arnett’s buyout was pocket change….it was intentionally set up that way in case it didn’t work out. He was a glorified interim coach.

It’s quite simple really….in the pre-NIL, pre-revenue sharing era, firing Lebby would be a no-brainer decision. But we now need that money for players. That’s still not an issue for every SEC program not named Mississippi State. But it’s a big issue for us.

And no matter how kind or patient we are with Lebby, we aren’t going to get proven, legit candidates interested….because everyone knows our disadvantages financially.

We got no interest after giving JWS three full years of crappy seasons to turn things around. Got no interest after giving Croom FIVE full years to suck. Hell, we didn’t even get interest after 2017 when Mullen left and actually proved we could be something. No sitting head coach is going to roll the dice on us unless its a rehab stint after some major scandal. The one guy ever who was wired differently enough to give us a shot in spite of all that actually DID come, but then died.

Doesn’t mean we can’t find a good one, its just going to be a big gamble every time.

We should have hired Petrino the day after his motorcycle accident.***

3 different head coaches, 3 different staffs, 3 different coaching philosophies in 3 years is a large part of our problems today. I don't see how going 4 for 4 would make that any better. Add to that paying off those former coaches and staffs IS going to affect our ability (think $$) to hire a suitable replacement. Furthermore, there is NOTHING anyone can point to that will guarantee we will be able to hire anyone with head coaching experience AND a decent staff AND have money left for NIL payments. Unlike what a lot of you think we do not have an unlimited supply of money.

In the past two portal classes, what defensive players have we signed who was even decent ? there isn’t one. So what other Power conference team has went two portal classes without signing even one contributor on defense ?
What quality player would want to play under a freaking special teams coach?

You must ask yourself if it is the players, the coaches, or both. We can't replace our coaches right now, or it will look stupid. The best we can hope for is that we can improve our players, and maybe our coaches will learn something from this season of ineptitude.

If we improve the players, we will get to 3-9 or 4-8. So it’s a wasted year essentially.

We at least need to reset the AD, before he ruins the other sports.

This might be the most embarrassing Egg Bowl we will ever see. Could be historic.
Our only chance for it not to be a blow out is all the rented mules just go in not giving a **** but worried about getting an injury that would affect their next NIL deal at the next school. Also, those going NFL.

If we lose to Ole Miss by 40 points or more, it will get hectic in here and with the powers that be whether we keep our coaches or not... no matter how much we argue about it.

If we REALLY want to restore the football team to beyond adequate.
1) Yes we gotta stick w/Lebby has bad as many of us hate it
2) Gotta get a president who cares about university progress, athletics, academics, and perception
3) Hes gotta hire a proven AD, perhaps success in a smaller school
4) AD has to hire a HC coach from a reputable program, that will bring in talent, croot, and hit the portal
5) HC hire proven competent OC/DC/ST and....strength coaches

I hated the Lebby hire and hate the Salmon hire more...but if we're gonna have long term success we gotta get things in order and build a foundation.

Keenum isn't going anywhere unless he wants to. The university is sitting on record enrollment and there is construction all over campus to handle the growth. We will not fire Lebby after this season. Even if he does no better than this year the odds are not great that we would fire him next year. The odds of there being a major shakeup with the defensive staff are pretty slim, but not zero. Those are just facts.

Yeah, let's keep firing coaches and hire another so we can fire him after one season. Then we can hire and fire his replacement as well.

Uh, have you not watched our defense and clueless DC? I'm telling you Kiffin is going to try and get the fans back and beat us 80-17 while putting up 700 yards of offense will do that. No matter what those fakes in Oxford say they'd cream in their pants if they did this to us, and it is very possible. Coleman freaking Hutzler as our DC who was a STC his whole life and has never called a defense before. To top it off we gave him a million dollar a year salary over three years. I was told he was this great recruiter. He was recruiting for Alafreakingbama with Nick Saban as HC. How in the hell did we get here?
I agree with the 80, but how do we get 17? Is this like a handicapped drag race where we get spotted 17 before the kickoff??

Lebby & Hutxler have to share some responsibility for the lack of defensive talent. Lebby brought in plenty of portal players on offense. Why no real defensive portal push?
We don't have a bottomless NIL account and it was a lot worse last year than this year.

3 different head coaches, 3 different staffs, 3 different coaching philosophies in 3 years is a large part of our problems today.
THIS is the main problem.
1. Everyone knew that the transition away from the Leach system was going to be as painful or even more painful that the transition to the Leach system.
2. Last year was a 100% debacle from the naming of the head coach to the staff he chose and cost us a full year in that transition.
3. To top off last year, which should have been a true transition year with expected incoming pain, we convinced 90% of our seniors to come back with the promise that we were only going to tweak the Leach offense which didn't provide much, if any, playing time for underclassmen.
4. Now, enter a first time head coach, a DC with zero experience as a DC, a group of inexperienced players, a new offensive system and couple that with an NIL network that started off behind the 8-ball because of the previous AD and you get what we have now.
There is no quick, easy way to fix this. I hate to quote a cheesy song but George Harrison pretty much sums it up.
"But it's gonna take money
A whole lotta spending money
It's going to take plenty of money
To do it right, child
It's gonna take time
Whole lotta precious time
It's gonna take patience and time
Mmm, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it, to do it
To do it right, child"

Looking for a silver lining here, but at least Mullen was aware enough to fire Torbush after that awful defense he fielded in 2009. Hopefully Lebby can and will do the same...

And let's not forget injuries. We lost our starting QB and a few other key players for which we had no SEC caliber replacements. Not trying to imply our starters were SEC caliber but they were what we had.

If Lebby/Selmon fires Hutzler and brings in a DC with experience, even if it’s an old-timer like Grantham, I think he should get another year. If he still can’t make this team serviceable with a semi-competent defense, then I think he needs to be gone.

The offense hasn’t been great, but goddam… this defense has been the absolute drizzling sнits.
