I have to somewhat agree-to 75% of CFB fans around the country we are known as the school that uses an instrument for gathering cows at our football games. It’s just not a very flattering representation and we CHOOSE it.

The cowbells are embarrassing but it’s a tradition too intrenched to get rid of. It’s like your friend that is embarrassing to be around but you defend him from being picked on by others.

The first few rows are certainly not that great. I suppose the field could be lowered a few feet and add a 0-level seating that's closer to the field, Indian burial grounds notwithstanding. But face it - unless you have seats between the 30s, the view's not going to be great in any stadium.
The original stands are too shallow. If they were a bit steeper, then the top row would be closer to field, and provide better viewing for all. This was really obvious back before the upper decks were built, and I'm still amazed they found a way to enclose the North Endzone.

Bow we have the upper decks, so I think we're stuck.

OTOH, Danny Stadium was not much steeper, and they have done just fine e pending around it.

My gold standard for stadium design is Jordan-Hare. Not a bad seat in the house.

We are an Ag school, and we embraced it rather than be embarrassed by it. We'll, I guess not all of us did.

I do know fans of other SEC schools who say they have to turn the volume down to watch games from Starkville because they find the bells so annoying. Whatever. I find "Rocky Top" amnoying.

SO 17N WHAT!

-Auburn throws toilet paper in trees and goes by 3 different damn mascots.

-The University of Northern MS is most proud of their "Hobby Lobby" chant that makes absolutely no 17 sense whatsoever.

-Need I remind you what represents A&M on the field dressed up like milkmen that get together at midnight to practice sign language in their overalls while groping each other?

-Have you ever witnessed AR fans calling the 17n Hogs?

-Clemson rubs a damn rock before they run onto the field

-FL does that stupid "Gator Chomp" and "FL St their "Tomohawk Chop" or whatever they call it while chanting

Do I need to go further?

None of this makes the game unwatchable though. I'm not saying its a stupid tradition, but it 100% is keeping people from tuning into our games. You kid yourself if you think otherwise.

NO, you said nothing of the sort about it being unwatchable in your post at all. You said, "It’s just not a very flattering representation and we CHOOSE it." You also said "cowbells are embarrassing" and "It’s like your friend that is embarrassing to be around but you defend him from being picked on by others". At no point in that post did you address a game being "unwatchable" or "cowbells keeping people from tuning into our games"

You can barely even hear the bells on tv, that's a total BS excuse if somebody doesn't watch because of that. And it they don't want to "tune into our games", SO 17N WHAT?

Getting rid of cowbells is insane. But we do need to fix some things.

Winning doesn't fix those things, it just makes them seem less important. Some key personnel decisions would fix many issues.

We have to make some changes to be competitive again. We were there once and can get back again.

Cowbells need to go. No ring responsibly, just be done with them. Watching a home game on TV is awful. You think Gameday is ever going to come back? Nope. We ***** and moan about the Vandy Whistler...the cowbells are just as annoying, if not more. You know I'm right. We ring those bells when were honoring people on the field during timeouts and you can't even hear whats going on. Its embarrassing. Not that we're worthy of any sort of primetime game, but I promise you ESPN/ABC thinks about that stuff. For the casual fan tuning in, its painful. If you guys prefer 11am games then we should keep them.

Davis Wade sucks. The north endzone is fantastic. Keep it, tear down the rest. Our front row is so far away from the field we will never have an atmosphere like a big time program. Watching on TV sometimes the first row of the fans is not even in the camera shot. I sit in the 200 level on the west side. Without really doing some research I'd be willing to bet the front row of the 200 level is further away than most seats in the upper deck at Neyland, or most other stadium upper decks. I was just at the super dome in the 500 level...that was so much closer to the action than our 200 level. I'd even be willing to bet the 40th row in the lower level is as far away from the field as some seats in the upper decks at other stadiums. You architect dogs can probably pull slopes and angles and **** easier than I ever could.

All of our lower levels are awful. You guys know what I'm talking about so I wont go into details. Lets just redo them both.

Whatever it takes...tear down the entire west side and redo it. Build that **** full of luxury seating, club level, etc but put that thing on top of the field. I don't know why, but it drives me crazy seeing how far away our seats are from the field. While we rebuild one side, everyone can sit on the other. Theres plenty of room. Then do the other side next. We need a tight *** stadium thats on top of the field. 50-55k is plenty. Finish bowling in the south endzone. That hotel idea would be awesome. Just like the Lofts at Dudy Noble.

2 humungous video boards are stupid. Maybe it was cool in 2008? If some seats weren't so far away from the field those wouldn't be needed. We could have a reasonable sized board in every corner.

NIL - someone has to step up and get creative. The university needs to get creative. They are the ones with the money. I know Tenn charges and extra $10 on their tickets that go to their NIL. We need to figure out something similar. We will always have a core that buys tickets whether they go or not. Figure out what our break even costs are on game day operations and then the rest of our ticket sales go to NIL. So if a ticket is $100 and $50 of that is the break even costs.....$50 goes to the NIL. Its not gonna work with Bill from Noxapater auto drafting $25 a month.

I just want to be competitive again and at least have a fun game day atmosphere. This is an investment, but they have the money.
What if it was Bob from Bogue Chitto auto drafting $25 each month?

eh, lots of those quotes aren't mine and the ones that are have been taken out of context.

Its embarrassing when we roll out a war veteran and thank them for their service but no body can hear a thing because we start ringing cowbells. Same goes for a big donor. The cowbells drown everything out. Thats embarrassing.

If I wasn't clear, the cowbells make the games unwatchable by the casual fan. Its a real thing whether you want to admit it or not.

I want a power house program...you need that by bringing in fans and viewers. So all you people saying you don't give a crap if people watch or not....that's a problem. People from all over the country are sending their kids to our reasonably priced southern universities. Do we want to attract as many eyes and ears to our university as possible or not?

Yall know I'm right, you just don't know it yet.

I agree we need fans to develop a stronger program, but I think viewers come from being a powerhouse, and not the other way 'round.

You make a fair point that increased viewership can result in more fans....what I'm not buying is your argument that we are losing viewers due to the cowbells, and therefore losing potential money-donating fans due to the cowbells.

I would need to see some hard data to back that up.

Plus, any successful businessman will tell you that keeping your current customers happy is much more important than marketing to potential new customers. How many current fans love the cowbells so much that losing the bells would affect the amount of money they are willing to spend/donate to the program? I bet it outweighs any potential gain of TV viewership from silencing the bells.

What makes a game unwatchable is an undisciplined out of sync offense and porous weak defense. We presently have both.

The stadium is too far from the field because it used to have a track around it. All such stadiums are the same. Los Angeles coliseum is a famous one.
I wouldn't be opposed to rebuilding the lower stadium. I wonder how much could have been done with the money Cohen spent on that ridiculous baseball stadium, a minimal or non-revenue producing sport.

This is truly Saban 2.0, these are all the answers to rule the Sip and the SEC and the nation.

If you look at Oxford football stadium, it needs to be torn down worse. Go visit Texas A&M and you will understand why they did it. $100M+ and I guess the Reb Bears don't have the money to play in the big boy league with Texas and Texas A&M. Sad. We don't either but at least we know it.

Instead why don't we look at the simple reality.

1) Costs for a roster have quadrupled, temporarily. There are no rules.
2) We have a coach that died and we stalled until we could get the coach we wanted at the right price.
3) We need to put an SEC roster together over the next 2 years (this will not be easy and it will cost $$$$$)
4) We need to look at the reality of contracts coming soon instead of dropping 8 figures on this wild wild west no rules at all season we are in

I never believe in the "4 year plan" but man Lebby was hired less than 12 months ago. Give him 1 more year to get his guys.

Getting rid of the cowbells is a terrible idea just to pile on, HOWEVER, there does need to be more common sense as to when to ring them. The amount of fans, especially coming from the student section, that like to ring their cowbells when we are about to go for it on fourth down bothers the **** out of me.

When it comes to razing the stadium, I agree, but that isn't coming any time soon. Plans were announced for the North End zone after we had some winning seasons for a couple years and it was apparent the football program was on the rise. No matter what y'alls opinion on Loaferz is, that joker could fundraise and market our program to get some money donated. With what the status of the team is currently and apathy being what it is there won't be any money coming in any time soon until people believe a winner is coming.

I always love a plan that doesn’t include funding. It’s called fantasy strategic planning and CEOs love it.****
THere is about 6 schools right now doing major, 300 million dollar renovations in the face of this House settlement. Two of which are in the SEC. A few of which are in conferences that don't payout near the money the SEC does.

If State can't figure out a way to fund a renovation of their 100 year old stadium........State is just flat broke or lacks the "CEO" ...... probably both.

Ok. Show us a picture of your check to get it started. Cowbells forever. You must be a new Bulldog who was never introduced to the tradition. I get it but….no. Again you’re talking hundreds of millions of dollars. Maybe we should polish what we got and spend large on better players and coaches. IMO

We need a long term plan like this that everyone involved with our program agrees and does their part to build something new.
