We need something to improve pre-game atmosphere......

As I watch Virginia Tech's, I realize this is something that's been severely lacking in the Croom Era. Sherrill's wasn't bad, but they normally had some kickass music playing and at least the mascot would fight on the 50 yard line to Bad to the Bone.

Now all we have in the giant helmet and some smoke. What do you think could be added, that fits MSU?

we need to take advantage of the Air Force base and have some serious fly overs. I'm talking stealth bombers people. When we get the new video board we need to have a pro-done highlight video. With good music and combo of Jack/Sly talking with some kind of dramatic music.

Even Ole Miss has a good thing going with their celebrity-of-the-week doing the "Are You Ready.." thing to start hotty toddy.

How much would we have to pay Will Ferrell to record some kind of "hello mississippi state gimmie more cowbell" thing? That would go off like a rocket. I can't see him refusing for a paltry sum. Come on...

This is not hard. Mostly we need to something, pretty much anything, that's new (new to us) and fun.

And I know we couldn't get the stealth bomber. I've seen it at an airshow years ago. Very strange. Even knowing which direction it was coming from you could barely see it until it got right up on you. And you couldn't hear it at all until it flew overhead. Even then it was just a faint whoosh sound. It was awe inspiring, but not in the way that would work at a football game. More in the way that just makes the crowd go silent.

here we go again? What do you want to see? That jackass with the microphone on the 50 again? Yea that went real well. Flyovers happen at hundreds of stadiums around the country and in every sport. I bet your the guy who blows up the helmet every game. Way to go..........seriously way to go...........

The MS National Guard has access to several Army helicopters, they can call it a training exercise. I cannot remember which game it was, but a Chinook was doing circles over the campus before the game and then left. The Egg Bowl game was neat too when the Blackhawks did a real flyby! All the school has to do is ask, and I am sure it can happen. The Air NG has a lift unit, and having one of those cargo aircraft scream over the stadium would surely get everyone's attention!
I don't think the gameday experience will be the same without those amazing flybys by our previous president!
You aren't satisfied with the mascot riding a dog house to the fifty? Me neither. Hopefully he isn't wearing a 7 jersey anymore either! Perhaps retire Tonka and put a bulldawg out there without arthritis. I seem to remember "Bully" leading the team to the 50.

and gets everyone to at least cheer before the start, which I guess is the point. Of course every now and then they do a completely lame one, like Kermit the Frog. But Snoop Dogg was awesome.

but we need like 5 of em'. Doc in his bi-plane was just embarrassing. Just like everything that man did. Up to date music would help also. I can remember one game in JWS era we played "Get Ya Roll On" or whatever and the whole team was doing the hand thing that went with it. I bet the legions of old people that make up our fan base would object though.

I think the gameday atmosphere could be enhanced simply by coordinating it better.

Seriously, we have the historical MSU video going, smoke coming out of the helmet, and the band trying to play the fight song all at the same time.

Here's how it should go:

Band pre-game
Bully/Bad to the Bone skit
Historical MSU football video
Highlight video from the current and last season
And then on the score board it should say something like HERE COME THE BULLDOGS! right when the video ends. Hank Flick, assuming he doesn't get Byrned, could just stretch out HEEEEEEERRRRREEEEE until the team comes out.
Band plays fight song while players run through the tunnel.

I'm also all for adding and trying new things to, and as a former band member, I endorse ditching the band camp highlight reel.

Hey new to the site, but I think we should play who let the dogs out a minute before our entrance...I mean when they played it at the egg bowl last year alot of people joined in and it got pretty loud. I've got other ideas for pregame stuff but none are worth mentioning until we have a new videoboard/soundsystem. Oh and by the way I find the blowup helmet kinda gay.

Very strange is right. I saw one fly over at Talladega a few years back. It was jaw dropping. Just hovering along at a slow speed coming in low from the north.... it looked like something not from this world. I was surprised at how large it was. Damn glad those things are on our side.

How about waiting until the visiting team comes out on the field before MState comes out? How hard is that?

Our whole pre-game is just embarassing. Our band is miserable they get out there and play some musical number about songs from the 50s or something that nobabody cares about instead of just playing stuff the fans can cheer to. I still do not understand why they will not play the "Hey, Go State" song before the game. It is the only cheer that everyone loves. Also when the team runs out the band should have their backs to the players and playing toward the seats. You can't hear a damn thing they are playing because they are playing at each other. Of course I do not expect the band to do anything right cause that whole department just hoped off the short bus.

And the inflatable helmet, pop that SOB and tear it into a million pieces it is horrible

Jackie used to do the same when he was a visitor - run out while the home crowd is cheering and avoid the boos that way.

..anything to make the visitors come out and run onto the field first.

Even better, do individual player introductions, like in basketball. That way, the visitors HAVE to come out and run onto the field when the HOME team makes them.

Yea it also blows my mind that our retard band wont play "hey go state" right before the game starts. I mean we do it at basketball games and its awesome, why shouldnt we do it at football games? Whoever plans the pregame stuff lacks a ton of common sense. I usually sit right behind the band before games..I'm gonna try and start heckling them into playing "hey go state" before the game.

Me and some buddies painted up and did the Dawg Pound Rock at the Bama game and then the players did it before the Egg Bowl. I would love to see it come back.

look i'm not going to get into a "pissing match" with you, but seriously bonedaddy, give me a break. first off, get your decades right, he played in the 80s (mostly). nice work there, einstein. secondly, if you think a player that won 4 championships and has recently been brought up for HEAD coaching vacancies in the nba is a failure, then i guess you just have a different definiton of success than i and 99% of the world. hell, i wish i could say i was a failure and had as much money and rings as he does. hey, i'd love to continue making you look stupid but i have to go get the inflatable helmet ready for the season. nice call, buddy.

until we have the new high-def display and a legit sound system. Our current "Minitron" and 1 watt speaker set up don't cut it.

I know the Grizzlies used to have short clips they'd play during the game. It'd be one the players saying something to get the crowd pumped up ... something simple such as "Hey crowd, let's make some noise" (of course said more enthusiastically than that). We could even pull that off on our ****** display and lame speaker (singular). Hell you could even have one of the players saying the most cliched thing ever: "More cowbell".

helmet ready and while your at it learn how to capitalize when you type. The sad truth is nobody cares when Kurt Rambis played, Einstein. Notice the capitalization.....and still no ideas out of you. Way to hijack the thread *******. Maybe you would like Kurt Rambis to come out and show off the rings that Magic Johnson won for him. Again notice the capitalization.

capitalization smack...that's got to be a first? can i get a ruling on that? i didn't say the guy was michael jordan, genius. i was just pointing out the fact that you're and dubmass by saying he was a failure when he obviously wasn't. oh, and so i won't get you upset any further and you'll quit crying i'll add my thoughts on improvements. i think we should have a f-22 fly over the stadium and blast kid rock from speakers that would be attached. oh yeah, you've obviously never been interviewed... edited to add: you're not to smart, are you

The first step would be to fill the stands BEFORE kickoff. The place would much louder if 10000 people weren't trying to squeeze thru the turnstiles as the kickoff is happening. Its extremely frustrating to see empty seats in the stands and people moving toward the stadium in droves as the pregame clock hits 00:00.

What really gets me pumped up during the game is when they play a video of some old geezer giving some ridiculous speech that no one can hear or understand about the Mississippi State Foundation. I also love it when they rock out Wooly Booly or some other lame *** song that sounds like crap because the speakers are pointed directly at the back of the end zone bleachers.

...at least Hank Flick doesn't bark anymore. That's a significant gameday improvement, if we do nothing else.
