we need to bury WKU and UM this week

Joe Retardi has us as a 10 seed and UM as a 4 in his latest bracket. We have 26 votes in coaches and 2 in media. UM is 14 & 16. That is a lot of discrepancy for two teams with similar records and SOS. Yes, our SOS is 208, but UM is around 170...not that much different. And yes, I understand that Rider was a terrible loss and UM has two "good" losses. But C'mon....that is waaaay too much disparity. Their team is not that much better than ours. As a matter, of fact, I don't think they are better than us at all. We are being punished for that Rider loss (and we should), but that was our first game of the year and was by far our worst outing of the year. Syracuse lost to a 1AA in exhibition, KY barely scraped by a terrible Miami-OH team in the 2nd game, Nova beat GM by 1 early in the year, and on and on...just like in football, good teams sometimes struggle early on. Yes, these teams found a way to win but we are being punished way too much for that one game. All I'm saying is that two convincing wins this week are sorely needed to get the public perception of this team back on par. If the team can't hold up their end of the deal, then they don't deserve it any way. Coach34 & Dishwater, don't hijack this thread to bash 'bury. We all understand your feelings about him and we all understand that we have a "Rider" every season that hurts us. All I'm saying is this team deserves way more respect than they're getting and that this week is their chance to earn it. No idiocy needed, so please, just don't even reply to this thread.

I'm not concerned about burying either WKU or UM, I just want to win.

The last one had us in the 8/9 game playing Cal, winner playing Texas. This one has us as a 10 playing Pitt, winner playing 2 seed Duke.

SEC has six teams in.
UK -1
UT - 3
UM - 4
Florida - 7 (?)
MSU - 10
Vandy - 12, and one of the last four in.

OUT: Louisville, Cornell, and Memphis.

and we had already lost 2 games at the time. i was just going to post the same thing.

ETA: i also think it's bush league that our game against UCLA was a "neutral site" game. we are 2-0 on the road and 4-1 in neutral games, which are both good. 3-0 on the road would be nice (and an ever-so-slight RPI boost).

I guess since the only difference in 8/9 is the color shirt you wear in the first game, I said we dropped a spot. If we had gone from 9 to 7 I probably would have made the same mistake.

Man I would really like to work our way up to a 5 by March.

for a team with a 46 RPI and 8 wins over teams outside the top 150.

final 2 free throws against Richmond. If so we would currently be 2-0 against the 2 Top 50 RPI teams we've played (ODU is the other). Instead we are 1-1 with that bad loss still thrown in there to Rider. The WKY game tonight is crucial as they are one of the better non-conference RPI teams on our schedule (currently at 71). We really need one more decent OOC win before the SEC especially on the road and tonight gives us that opportunity.

KSU, Nova, WVA, UTEP and Indiana.

I really have no idea what kind of team we have right now. We beat a pretty damn good KSU team, but looked like crap agianst a pretty bad USM team and a couple other crap teams we have played.

Our rebounding is unbearable to watch, and our half court offense has no rythem outside of Warren jacking up a three.

That being said, we are athletic and should improve as the season goes on. We really miss Malcolm White. I've been happy with Buckner, but Malcolm White's size would be really helpful right now. Also, if anyone has a pass first PG, I would really like him as well.

It's too early to worry too much about bracketology or RPI.

Our RPI has gone from mid to high 20s to mid-40s in a matter of a couple weeks without us taking a bad loss. The formula has way too much flux right now. USM was Top 5 in the RPI a couple weeks ago. Now they are outside the Top 150.

Bracketology and RPI both don't really mean a whole lot until you get into mid-February. When you get to that point, the conferences have played more than half the season and therefore the RPIs should be settling into a steady range, and the bracketology should give you an idea what you still have to do or where you stand for seeding.

I think we're both going to have tourney teams. I think you'll beat us out for the West by a game or two because you have a team that is a bit more experienced, and your team has a better idea of the roles they play. I think we'll both be tourney teams, and you'll likely have a slightly higher seed.

what has me worried is our inability to gain momemtum with the media (rankings) and RPI despite our winning streak. we're sitting at 12-2 after a 9 game winning streak but we're steadily dropping in RPI and not gaining any ground in the polls. It's going to be hard to gain momemtum after this week b/c we hit the tough part of our schedule. it's just going to be a really hard fight to get back into the top 25 now. If we finish the year a top 25 team, the RPI really doesn't matter...we'll be around a 4-6 seed. i just can't believe how little momentum we've gained on our 9 game streak.

That's the current RPI ranking of the teams we have beaten in our streak. Valley and Centenary in particular are killing us. That's why we haven't moved much - we haven't done anything noteworthy. The only possibility we had of doing something noteworthy in this streak was to have lost another one.

WKU at #70 gives us a shot at a nice road win. We are 68 today, down from 60 on Friday and 65 yesterday.

That's probably because Old Dominion is the best team you beat in that stretch. You'll gain momentum if and when you start winning in the SEC, and I'm leaning more toward when than if. Depaul and UCLA carry about as much weight as our Indiana win. Winning at San Diego may be your next best win, but the voters aren't going to put you back in the Top 25 until you rack up some SEC wins, and you will. We started gaining momentum in the polls when we beat KSU in Puerto Rico on TV. We've simply managed to avoid the bad loss since then, and we've really primarily ridden the coattails of KSU in the polls since then as they've beaten teams like UNLV, Xavier, Washington State, and Dayton since we beat them.

I don't think we're one of the Top 15 teams in the country. We have a chance to be one of the Top 25 if we come together, but we aren't there right now. Still, the polls won't punish us for our play until it starts costing us games against teams outside the Top 10, and it will eventually.

i don't expect to be ranked right now, but we have been hovering around 40 for 3 weeks. I would like to see us around 30 right now. even 33-35. some movement. i am just realizing how big of a hole we have to climb out of now to get anywhere. And what's really frustrating is that it's just that one loss that was our first game of the year. you take that game off our schedule and we're sitting around #20 or higher. i don't think the fact that we were unprepared for that game makes us 20 places worse than we would be otherwise. i know it doesn't matter, i'm just bitching. first day back at work and all after an 11 day vacation. i just feel like bitching.

We've been playing great, but the pressure is really on tonight. We've got to have it. I also agree with RebelBruiser in his comparison of our two teams.

I think RPI is bad for basketball. I think we're victimized by it. But we're stuck with it, ******** tho it is.
