We should eliminate the Presidents' Day holiday

And replace it with Super Bowl Monday - the day after the Super Bowl to recover.

That way you keep a federal holiday in February that actually has some relevance to people's lives and is associated with an All-American pastime. Presidents' Day seems to be more in line with Flag Day - something to put on the calendar to discuss it's meaning and relevance to the country, but we don't need time off for it.

I do not get it as a holiday anyway. So I would have to work on either day unless I took some of my PTO to take it off. ;)

Only holidays should be the big six. NYD, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. The rest are “boondoggle” days for “govment” workers.

I could get behind this - with the option to add Super Bowl Monday, March Madness Thursday and Friday (first round) and Election Day (to keep it in line with government related ideas).

I say follow the British example and drop the silliness of having to have every holiday "celebrate" something. In England, holiday days are simply called a "Bank Holiday" and businesses close. The date may coincide with Christmas, New Years, etc. but the holiday is simply called a bank holiday. Random holidays are thrown in for Spring, Summer, Fall.

The NFL is moving to lengthen the season which will result in having the Super Bowl the Sunday immediately prior to the holiday.

Anyway, I can't imagine anything less relevant than the Super Bowl to become a holiday. Some folks make such a huge deal over the Super Bowl, but I doubt most could even tell you who won the last 3-5 Super Bowls.

Well at least 124 million people care about the Super Bowl - I'm not sure I know any that care about Presidents' Day (except maybe a handful of living presidents).

Lots of people like lots of things. Silly to suggest making a federal holiday out of anything that a lot of people like.

Most people only care about any federal holiday for the very reason that it's a federal holiday. So that logic is moot.

It's also a terribly sad commentary on the state of our weak-minded society that some folks believe we need a federal holiday to recover from watching a football game the day prior. Not playing in the game, mind you. Just sitting and watching the game.

Boo hoo. It's even sadder to make broad social statements about silly message board threads.

In the last 5-10 years, if you added together all of the time I have spent watching the Super Bowl, I bet I haven't watched one full game of the Super Bowl.

I'm not sure how much they really "care" about the Super Bowl. Maybe Taylor Swift's birthday should be a national holiday? A ton of people really care about her.

Absolutely not. In fact it should go back to its original name "George Washington's birthday."

In a way, it seems a bit un-American to command respect for an elected offical.

Like any other Holiday- holidays add couple extra dollars to some peoples pay checks. Keep them, I don’t care they are for.

The Canadian Province of British Columbia observed "Family Day" this past Monday 02/19.......

I was so hoping the Lions would have won the NFC. The last time they won an NFL title, the Giants and Dodgers has recently announced their west coast relocations!

Now here's an interesting fact of sorts.

In 1957, the Lions and 49ers ended up in a tie for 1st in the NFL west, and the Lions won the division playoff game. They went on to defeat (run roughshod) over the Cleveland Browns in the NFL title game.

The Baltimore Ravens are the true descendent of the Cleveland Browns. I find it disingenuous that the NFL considers today's Cleveland Browns to be the same team that won the NFL east in 1957.

Meaning that had the Ravens and Lions won their conference titles, it would have been a repeat of the 1957 NFL championship game. And that I would have watched.
