We'll be lucky if Romero Osby is on the team next year.

I'm guessing he transfers at the end of the year. I'm glad we're up right now, but I still think he needs more minutes. I say play him at the 3 with Augustus at the 4.

That would be dumb. He has not played lately because he has been away for family matters and probably why he didn't play much tonight . Next year he will be a key part to our team. I don't see Ro going anywhere

Recruited highly and had major offers, and he doesn't get the minutes with us. I could understand if he would have signed with Kansas, but us. I mean we have alot of 3 stars on this team, and RO was a legit 4 star! Don't know who is responsible for subs, but they are screwing him to death.

On another note, notice how we always complain about substitution patterns early in the year when Stans is trying things out but you don't hear much about it later in the year???
Seems like we're starting to play the Bost/Turner/Johnson/Augustus/Varnado combination more while Stewart is on the bench, which is a combo that a lot of us would like to see. I'm liking the substitution patterns lately

He doesn't split with Benock, he splits with Ravern. Ravern only plays the 3 which is where Romero plays all his minutes barring foul trouble by Kodi. I'm not sure why Ravern played so many minutes tonight (37), but its not like Romero is splitting with a scrub. It will be tough for Romero to ever get big minutes with Ravern ahead of him.

Is this a typo in their boxscore or did Taylor Luczak actually play the same amount of minutes (3) as Osby? I wasn't able to watch the game and only listened to first half.

These minutes are pathetic. It is just idiotic that he does not get at least 15 minutes a night. The games he has gotten more than that have been blowouts (BC, UTPA, St Bonny, DePaul and Centenary). The Houston game he got pulled after one turnover. Who can perform at their peak with limited minutes AND the pressure of knowing that if you screw up once you are going back to the bench?

If I was him I would leave now and sit my year, then be ready to roll in late December of next year for someone.

Yeah, cuz there wasnt any discussion of substitution patterns last year during the second half of the season concerning Augustus.

Good point.

He seems like he is best when slashing/driving into the paint from the perimeter and also initiating and finishing on fast breaks.

Our offense isnt exactly built strongly around those two things and to do both you kinda have to have the offense run thru you a bit. He clearly doesnt have that.

Performance has nothing to do with it. Stansbury still uses the hockey substitutions, and if it's a tight game throughout the 2nd half then your starters, especially Stewart, are going to get 35+ minutes. The starters are usually on the floor in the first half till the under 12 timeout. He brings in 4 off the bench and leaves Dee in. Then at the next stoppage Stewart is subbed in to run the point. Depending on the closeness of the game, the starters are subbed right back in anywhere from 4-6 minutes left and play the rest of the half. Rinse repeat in half #2. And as we've seen in the past, if it's a back and forth game the starters may end up playing 16 minutes or more in the 2nd half.

Stansbury picks players on their defensive play. There have been counntless times that Randy has shot nothing but bricks and should have been benched, but his defensive effort keeps him in the game. So I'm guessing Ro don't play defense

I think Ravern's typically hot shooting is his saving grace. Kodi, well, his story speaks for itself.

Well he needs to start playing like he deserved all those offers. Only then will he get the minutes.

I agree, he just doesn't show much out there. Just like it wasn't a "substitution" problem when Kodi wasn't playing last year. He had an attitude problem, and he pretty much wasn't playing at all. And frankly, I didn't see the problem with it. I thought we were just as good without him, I'd rather see Turner get all of his minutes if he was going to be a cancer like he was last year. OR if he's going to stay out on the perimeter like a guard. Now if he goes inside, rebounds, defends, and uses his size, then he'll get more minutes. And the same goes for Osby

What is it he needs to improve on? He is second on the team in FG% to Jarvis. Second on the team in 3 PT% to Kodi. Fourth in FT%, at 70%. Gets a rebound every four minutes, roughly the same as Kodi and twice as frequently as Ravern. Granted, he turns it over too much. It's not like ball security has been a hallmark of Mississippi State under Stansbury and Williams though. He should be playing more. End of story. The hockey line sub pattern post earlier was a great anaolgy and sadly accurate. It's as predictable as the timeout we call on our last offensive possession of the half. I would love to see how often we score off of whatever it is we set up at that timeout.

I doubt the line sub around the 12 minute mark is designed to "trick" anyone. As for the time out in the last minute, i assume rather than calling the time out for a set play that doesn't carry over to the second half , we should just disregard the TO. A perceived lack of success would be a great reason to eliminate the need to develop a play with future value. That 20 sec time out before the half really destroys all that momentum going to the locker room.

He plays hard, shoots the ball well and gets boards. He has to have pissed of Stans, Meo, or the Bury Kids... I hate it when Stans just let talent sit on the bench. (See Kodi from last year) I mean he needs to play so he can support that baby one day...

I think he has missed a couple of practices due to the birth of his child and Stans has taken away some of his minutes, which wasnt alot to begin with . I think the real problem with Osby though is he is a tweener (Reggie Bush-esque), too small to be a front court player, and not quick enough to be a guard. Therefore I think he has a tough time finding out where he belongs on the court.
