Unfortunately, even with this class being an all-around success, we are still lagging behind in blue-chip talent on the OL committing to us. We get a lot of blue-chip kids at the skilled positions on both sides of the ball, but in the trenches (especially in the interior) recruiting has not really kept up with other position areas and it continues to be a major problem against our best opponents. I really wish they had a way to address this deficiency.

Both the OL and DL have had attrition though injuries, transfers, and guys moving on for one reason or another. How do Clemson's lines look this year? They've been out recruiting us for years and even they can't plug and play.

It's the first year it's really caught up to them like this. Attrition happens everywhere, but some schools who do not necessarily out-recruit us still find more consistent success than we do with that unit. Meanwhile, the OL play seems to be a recurring concern most seasons for us in recent years.

I’m not interested in getting into increasingly narrow arguments on a msg board. So, I’ll just leave it at this. We’re not recruiting the kind of depth we need in order to get over the hump we keep falling short of. I understand that you are pointing to other factors that have challenged our offensive line group from being where they need to be, and rightly so—multiple problems have contributed. I commend you for that. However, pointing to how a couple of teams (who’ve achieved levels of success we haven’t in recent years) have not been very good on the OL in 2021 does not change the problem that PSU has had a recurring weakness in their offensive line as a whole unit for several seasons—even despite putting a some individuals into the NFL. OSU is obviously the standard-bearer for our league, and just about every year we are outclassed by them in the trenches. While I think Franklin and his staff do well enough in recruiting skill position players to compete with them, we consistently fail to measure up at the line of scrimmage. I believe it is quite reasonable to suggest changing that starts with not losing as many recruiting battles for our top targets on the line (and, I’m not even talking about recruits we directly compete for with OSU).

We have been able to garner several blue-chip linemen (development has been a question here at times, which I have discussed before) during Franklin's tenure, but there have been several important misses; we need to win more of the top targets on our board for the fact that depth really matters at the top level in order to counteract the guys who do not pan out, injuries, graduation, etc.

I don't see how anyone can disagree with that take.
