My wife and I met one of his granddaughters yesterday in Tupelo at 5 Below. We told her we missed him very much and she said she did too. I said. "You can wrap it in Maroon and white" when we left and she laughed.

My great grandmother had the thrill of her life in the late 70's when my dad somehow arranged for Jack to give her a shoutout during the broadcast. Over-the-moon thrilled! Never forget her sitting in her kitchen listening to Jack on Saturdays.

Somebody said "ties of the generations" is absolutely spot-on.

Back in the mid 1970’s when I was a student, Jack came into Len Lews and sat the bar stool next to me on a night we were playing the bear sharks at home in basketball. He had a cheeseburger and a coke before heading to the old gym to call the game. We had a great conversation but I was awe struck the whole time. That conversation then and still today ranks as one of the biggest thrills of my lifetime. I can assure you that to put it mildly, he did not like ANYTHING about UM in sports or otherwise. He was my hero.
