What do you need to see against Furman to make you happy?

My list:
Protection for Rattler which means OL is clear on scheme/responsibilities and is not whiffing on pass blocking assignments.
Some effective run blocking between the tackles
DL with a mission to get off blocks and pressure the QB/make plays in run game
Better play from the LB's - Hoping for a Pup Howard coming out party

If we produce what you mentioned, the question still remains if they can produce versus SEC competition.
Only thing I see in this game is maybe getting confidence up.

True, but if they can't do it against Furman, well the rest of the schedule looks pretty rough.
Baby Steps (to borrow from "What About Bob") and confidence builder as you said.

Zero negative yardage plays. Zero sacks allowed. Zero injuries. 40+pts on offense. Defense gives up 10pts or less.

An SEC program that cannot assert its will against Furman is in bad shape.
That Furman team gave Clem all they could handle last year. And they returned almost everyone. They had more yards and TOP. Final score was 35-12. Not saying we won’t control the game. But if you’re looking for a 55-10 type game it’s not going to happen.

I just want to see a game where Ratt has a clean jersey, we execute, and the game is never in doubt. Don’t really care what the score ends up as long as that happens.

I know it won’t, but I dream of a day when we don’t have to have muted expectations for a game against Furman. Maybe my son will see that day.

Furman is a solid team. That being said, anything we see Saturday I’m not expecting to project into SEC play.

I’d be pleased with a dominating win. But not expecting that it will be easy. But regardless of how it goes, still don’t think we’ll learn much about our team on Saturday as far as positives go, but we sure could confirm a lot of bad things.

I'm not sure there's anything we could see against Furman that would make me "happy" as far as regaining confidence in the football season. An SEC team that beats Furman by 40 points could still lose to every other SEC team not named "Vanderbilt."

I don't care what anyone says. If we cannot beat Furman soundly, then we might as well shut it down.

I don't know about shutting ot down, but I agree with the sentiment. This season is a train wreck of we lose to Furman.

That being said, it's FURMAN. We should have no trouble. A blowout is expected, and tells us nothing really about our team vs real opponents.

A win and no injuries. A blowout win will be "so what, it was Furman". Piling on and stomping a mudhole in a cupcake isn't anything to be proud of.

Exactly the point: we should not have to pile on. It should happen naturally for an SEC team playing Furman. We should not have to work for a blowout.

The way these games should work: build a commanding first half lead and pull the starters at the half.

A more settled O Line that has a clean performance and better communication picking up blitzes, if they cant do this vs lesser competition then uh oh.

Spencer not hit, no sacks.

Improved production from the TE's, also picking up what they need to in the blocking game, blitzers coming free is not always a 100% on the O line.

A running back that flashes or that I see potential in. Even if the staff still doesn't want to start him over Dak, at least I will know we have a improvement in the wings, developing.

I would like to see LaNorris Sellers play, as that will mean we are winning big, and I want to see him at this level in a actual game.

I want to see Pup Howard play and play well.

Interesting to see what they do at nickel, do we see a new player ?

More punts from the opposing team and more punt returns.

I do not want to see any injured player rushed back, rest up for UGA.

Furman is #6 in the FCS rankings with a ton of returning production. They're a really good football team.

That said, it's Furman. I expect a dominant, blowout performance. Anything less than that will be disappointing and concerning.

Specific expectations? I want to see the offensive and defensive lines control the game.

I will not be surprised to see a fairly close first half. Good FCS teams can usually hang with FBS teams for a half before the depth and size difference catches up to them. UT Martin hung with Georgia pretty well for a half and they have been a dominant team in their conference for several years. I can recall many games over the years where an FCS team was able to be very competitive for a half with some big name FBS teams.

I can see a 17-10 halftime score and a 45-17 final score type thing.

We will have 4 starters that transferred from FCS programs on the field. I agree with you, it's going to be slow starting. But over the course of 4 qtrs overall talent and speed should take over. If we get sloppy and turn the ball over it could get really interesting.

An O-line that looks like they know the scheme and has some athletic ability to execute it. Wannamaker was a big recruit. It’s time he show’s us something.

Wannamaker was a composite 3* guy. One site (maybe ESPN) had him as a 4*. The only big recruits we have on the roster are ones we just added in the 2023 class. Markee Anderson has been hurt, or I think you would have seen him out there against UNC. Hopefully he can get some snaps this week.

Yeah, I’m afraid we are an injury or 2 from being able to field a line at all. We are going to have to do more mis direction run plays, maybe some sweeps to slot receivers to open up the middle, and some QB runs too. Get the D having to think more than just firing off the snap.

Scheme, execution and no whiffing on blocks by OL is a requirement!
