You must be new to football. Today the NFL rosters are full of athletes, not football players. You must be new to Thursday Night Football. Rarely are they good, clean games. And I suspect weather may be a factor this evening. The product exists for tv only, and perhaps gambling.
NFL over College every day, every game…..The level of play has fallen so far. These guys are professionals only because they receive a paycheck. At least the college players are earning their pay. The execution of play in the college game is so much better.
NFL over College every day, every game…..
I agree with him. The NFL still has fantastic players and really good teams. Not sure why you are railing against the NFL in 2 separate threads?Nada, nein, zilch.
You have to agree that the level of play in the NFL has really dropped off in recent years. Too many penalties and mental mistakes. Again, good athletes, but not good football smarts.I agree with him. The NFL still has fantastic players and really good teams. Not sure why you are railing against the NFL in 2 separate threads?
It’s entertainment. I don’t get too worked up about it.You have to agree that the level of play in the NFL has really dropped off in recent years. Too many penalties and mental mistakes. Again, good athletes, but not good football smarts.
Ehh maybe not. I don't think it's as bad as you do. I just prefer the College game and always will.I
I'm with you brother.
No i don’tYou have to agree that the level of play in the NFL has really dropped off in recent years. Too many penalties and mental mistakes. Again, good athletes, but not good football smarts.
Do you have a collegiate Alma Mater?NFL over College every day, every game…..
There are far too many penalties in NFL games. It has become somewhat unwatchable. The level of play has fallen so far. These guys are professionals only because they receive a paycheck. At least the college players are earning their pay. The execution of play in the college game is so much better.
No.NFL over College every day, every game…..
I agree! And so many more knuckleheads. There are far too many penalties in NFL games. It has become somewhat unwatchable.
There is no argument that today's NFL players are better athletes. But I will argue that the professionalism and demeanor of the players has fallen. There are way too many mental errors and personal fouls that impact the outcomes of games. Also, It seems to me that many players don't know the rules. I realize there are a plethora of rules and changes. But knowing the game is a part of being a professional. To me, being a professional isn't simply being a better athlete. Just MHO.The level of play in the NFL is obviously far superior to the level of play in college…players are bigger, faster, more skilled, more prepared, etc. And football teams of today would obviously pound football teams from prior generations.
By the way, you may have to back that up in a few weeks...NFL over College every day, every game…..
Hoping for the noon game on Saturday or the night game on Friday. We have a parking spot close to the stadium and a short drive so seeing both is possible. If the Nittany Lions end up playing the late afternoon slot on Saturday Tgar will certainly be missing the Steelers game.By the way, you may have to back that up in a few weeks...
If PSU hosts a CFB game on Sat in the afternoon (330), the NFL has a Steelers game scheduled for 430 on TV.
But, that does not defend your premise that "NFL over college every day, every game."Hoping for the noon game on Saturday or the night game on Friday. It’s just a better product. 12 minute half times. A real league with real structure. College Football wants to be the NFL but has way too many matchups that are meaningless. The Big Ten and the SEC want to break away to form their own situation similar to the NFL.But, that does not defend your premise that "NFL over college every day, every game."
If the premise of your argument is that the NFL's playoff system is better, you won't get an argument from me.It’s just a better product. 12 minute half times. A real league with real structure. Even with expanded playoffs college football still has a beauty pageant element that is undeniable.
The NFL is by far the best league going. Baseball, EPL, etc. have flaws with payroll structure though they have deep development leagues which are compelling.
Watching Penn State play Kent State hardly moves the needle.
College football needs to determine what it wants to be and needs to make the necessary changes quickly.
Conversely, I can't even tell you the last time I watched a full NFL game. It's just so.....boring.......I watch a lot more NFL than I used to with all the changes taking place with college football
while Valid points, we shall agree to disagree. If the premise of your argument is that the NFL's playoff system is better, you won't get an argument from me.
But I disagree that CFB wants to be like the NFL. CFBs biggest issue is it's adherence to "tradition", which starts with talent acquisition. In the NFL, the team picks the talent. In CFB, the talent picks the team. The "beauty pagaent" is another issue with "tradition". The polling system is out dated as is the CFP committee - because having the human element is out dated. If CFB wanted to be like the NFL, it would get rid of the human element - and so far, it has steadfastly refused to do so.
However, you simply said that NFL over College every day - I think you are wrong - the game on the field is much more exciting in CFB than the NFL. The league is simply too homogenized to be enjoyed or even taken seriously. One positive aspect of the poll system (and I know I am contradicting myself) is that games between two teams that are not in the Big Ten have impact on PSU. And not just one or two games.
The NFL is more of a product than CFB is (at this point). It's simply less enjoyable.
Sure is.....and I think you have to add in Colorado vs Kansas, Ole Miss vs. Florida.while Valid points, we shall agree to disagree.
Tomorrow is, from a College Purists POV a great day of football.
Indiana vs Ohio State at noon.
Penn State vs Minnesota 3:30 pm
Army vs ND from Yankees Stadium 7:00 pm
USC vs UCLA 10:30pm.
In the 60's and 70's players would say the games were easier than practice....today's players won't put up with that. If you made a dumb mistake you sat for a spell. Today the owners won't allow a million dollar a year player to sit. Look at PSU.....a player gets a personal foul penalty for taunting and stepping over a tackled player yet CJF doesn't seem to care and doesn't sit him..... numerous false starts and no one sits. When you have zero threat of losing PT there is less discipline and more foolish mistakes. Welcome to the new culture. Money as a fin̈e isn’t a deterrent...the only thing players fear is loss of PT.You have to agree that the level of play in the NFL has really dropped off in recent years. Too many penalties and mental mistakes. Again, good athletes, but not good football smarts.
The particular play you mentioned was really iffy, IMO. If you want to legitimately point to one the 2nd time Reed took his helmet off on a play he had nothing to do with would be the one.In the 60's and 70's players would say the games were easier than practice....today's players won't put up with that. You haven’t watch a complete game yet you say it is boring.Conversely, I can't even tell you the last time I watched a full NFL game. It's just so.....boring.......
Well in psuro's defense you don't need to watch a full game to decide it's boring. I've turned off more than a few of them for that exact reason. You haven’t watch a complete game yet you say it is boring.
Exactly.....I can't get past a few minutes of an NFL game and get disinterested in it, because it bores me...You haven’t watch a complete game yet you say it is boring.
For me it's usually by the 7th flag in the first quarter or the 8the State Farm or worse even the Mutual Liberty commercial, also seemingly in the first quarter. It's why I hate the streaming services. I cant surf.Exactly.....I can't get past a few minutes of an NFL game and get disinterested in it, because it bores me...
The talent level in the NFL is off the charts. I watch soccer because the talent level is oh so awesome, right now I’m think of a sublime play that happened in September at the latest. I can turn on a NFL or Premier League game for twenty minutes, and if I got something better to do, I’ll turn off the game.Well in psuro's defense you don't need to watch a full game to decide it's boring. I've turned off more than a few of them for that exact reason.
You find Rutgers vs MD more interesting?Exactly.....I can't get past a few minutes of an NFL game and get disinterested in it, because it bores me...
