What is Croom's signature win this year?

1. You can chalk up the LSU and Arkansas games
2. You can do this without looking at rosters

We last beat Arkansas in 1998, LSU in 1999. To take the LSU example even further, we didn't beat them prior to that year since1991. You are talking about 15 out of 16 games, and several times in the 90's we clearly had the better team. There are 3 times we should have beaten Arkansas since 1998 and lose all 3 times. These two teams have our number. Anyone saying we might win one of these games is being delusional. Eventually we will defeat each of them again, but recent history tells us this event will likely be followed by more losing.

Furthermore, LSU has had far more talent then State in every season since the 2000 season ended. Arguing that our talent level is even close is ridiculous. It's not that we agree Peaches, it's that the truth of the statement that LSU is far more talented than us is so obvious that it boggles the mind how someone can argue against it.

They've owned us for 16 years, and they've hammered us 4 of the last 5 times we went to Tigah Stadium. I grew up despising LSU and would love nothing more than a victory, but you might as well chalk that one up as a loss.</p>

</p>There was a time when Bama beat us for 16 years in a row and we finally beat them and now they are our *****. There is always hope.

Just as someone pointed out just recently, there are juniors on that Bama team that have never beaten State. To them, they are our *****.

those guys wont be juniors until this Fall. I like the fact that we have won 2 in a row over them, but lets dont get too carried away. This years recruiting saw what Saban is about to do over there. We got to win 7 of the next 8 to make them our "*****"</p>

I live in Louisiana, I know a lot about LSU. I can't name their two deep at every position, but I know a ton about their team. Its May and half the stories in the sports page still involve LSU football. The Hornets are in a very big series with the defending champs, but we still get several daily articles about Jarrett Lee's progress at QB or how much Ciron Black likes living in Baton Rouge. Its just different than Mississippi. The papers here work like a scout/rivals site for LSU.

Note: This does not mean I think their is a conspiracy by the papers of Miss. against either Ole Miss or State, its just that the ones in LA have a very homeristic approach to covering LSU.

I grew up in the Southwest corner of MS, in what I would describe as an area with a pretty big LSU lean. Most of the people I went to school with were LSU fans, the tv stations we could pick up with the antenna were Baton Rouge stations, I went to BR quite a bit. Growing up all I heard was LSU this, LSU that. You can't live in that area and not know about LSU's teams. Like Sox said, it's just not the same in MS, particularly central MS. Our population is split between 3 major schools and a bunch of minor schools. If you are a college sports fan from LA, there is an extremely high probability you are an LSU fan. The term "sidewalk fan" definantly applies.

In Alabama it is all Auburn and Bama, all the time. Sports radio goes like this...
6-9am- Morning show (run through the pro scores then spend the rest of the time on the latest Bama or Auburn hotpoint)
9-12- The Herd or other national show.
12-1- Various shows (here in Mobile they squeeze in USA athletics and an outdoor show depending on the day)
1-3- National Show
3-6- Afternoon Sports drive ( run through the pro scores then spend the rest of the time on the latest Bama or Auburn hotpoint, who they are recruiting ect..)
Now somedays you have the Tide and Tiger report from 5-6, or I bleed Crimson or War Eagle show. Others you have the SEC Report which consists of the latest Bama or Auburn hotpoint, who they are recruiting ect.. Of course this doesn;t include the rerunning of Finebaum in the evening.

Before I reached my breaking point I probably knew more about the Auburn and Bama programs then I did State. Since then I swore off Bama-Auburn talk radio. MSU UM may be more heated within MS, then Bama AU in AL, but those programs saturate all media 10x what I see in MS. You just can't help getting blasted with it.</p>

Driving to MSU on gamedays, I can get 4 different stations airing the day long Bama broadcast (sometimes 2 at the sametime), but I have to be within an hour of Starkville to pick up anything MSU related. I might pick up a USM or UM broadcast at times. What pisses me off to no end is when by some freak of nature I hear some broadcast I have no business picking up. I have listened to U of Cincinatti games, Texas, Texas AM, UGA, LSU, and UF on the road to Starkville. </p>

How lame can you get? Arnil Stallworth carried the ball FOUR times last season.

is one too many.

In seriousness though, my personal prediction for the season record would mean a signature win would mean LSU or Tennessee. I just think we'll win 6-7 games, so beating Auburn aGAIN or a down Arkansas team doesn't fit that criteria. Winning at Oxford would, because it's a rivalry win on the road. That's a signature win, one you'd remember down the road.

we are getting closer to LSU. Not there yet, but the gap is closing. Henig made a 17-20 point loss into a 45 point loss last year. Considering we were losing by 45 without throwing 6 picks, I'd say we are getting closer. No way suggesting we will beat them. However, in 2005, did you think that by the end of '07 we would beat Alabama twice in a row and beat Auburn at Auburn, and win a friggin bowl game? I'd have thought someone was batshit crazy for even suggesting it, but yet it happened. We are closing the gap.

If that's the criteria, we are the ***** of very few teams, or have historically been the ***** of very few teams. Not Auburn, nor Florida, nor Tennessee. I feel alot better about not being a fan of a ***** team.

We are 6-6 in the last 12

In fairness, that 12 year period does include the worst 6-year football drought at MSU in 40 years. Of course, it also includes the best 4-year period in the past 40 years too.

But you're right, they're not our *****. I guess it just seems that way after losing something like 39 out of 40 to them prior to the last 12 years.</p>
