Up until I heard him say that, I had been giving him the benefit of the doubt. Not anymore.

This was just a calculated statement to try and “express remorse” in hopes that the NFL will not feel the need to add more games to the suspension in order for him to feel remorse. Definitely done at the advice of counsel as a last ditch effort to try and help his position.

This. The one comment from the arbitrator was that he never expressed remorse. This does that, while actually admitting to nothing.

Tim Tebow saying, "how you like me now?"

I never liked Tebow myself, but I do admire his ability to live a clean wholesome life...Watson should take note!!!!

Why would an attorney advise his client to express remorse for something he's claiming he didn't do and is totally innocent?

He worded it as "women he impacted". I don't think that constitutes remorse for what he's accused of. (With my lawyer hat on that I got from watching Law and Order. )

As I asked in the OP, how do you impact all those women when you claim you did nothing? What's the impact and from doing what?

You can "impact" people by walking by them on the street, or saying hi to them.

The fact that you and I can't agree that it's an admission of any specific behavior shows how non commital of a statement it is, imo.

This is a statement addressing a very specific group of 50+ women who have a very specific set allegations - not a drive-by comment because I bumped into to you on the street. Very telling to me. Why express remorse for things you haven't done.

But the message wasn’t meant for the women, it was meant for the NFL. It was a very calculated move by his legal team to address the remorse issue with the league.

I can certainly see where it does come across as a very strange statement though: “I’m sorry for the thing I didn’t do.” But he wasn’t just shooting from the hip in an unplanned interview. That was put out there for a very specific purpose.

But this comment of remorse doesn't address any specific allegation. (On purpose) If pressed on it, he could say it was simply for making women feel uncomfortable and not for assaulting them. His lawyer wrote it that way for that very reason.

it's telling, it leads to people assuming he must have dome something, but it's not a confession and is basically so he can tell the NFL he feels remorse.

I understand but more damaging than helpful to me. Many are asking the same questions I am asking.

They should ask, I just think his lawyer is too smart to write a statement that incriminates him, while also going for that "I feel bad" olive branch to the NFL.

Oh, I can see that. Just because it was intentionally done doesn't mean that it will serve its intended purpose. It could definitely backfire as it relates to public opinion because it does make him sound like he's admitting things.
