What is Mullen going to have to do to improve recruiting?

Before anyone goes ballistic, I do realize that our football team will have a preseason ranking for the first time in a decade and I would much rather have a team going to a new year's day bowl game rather than winning a recruiting championship. That said, I'd be lying if I said that our inability to see marked improvements in recruiting over the last three years wasn't at least a little disappointing. Thus far, Mullen's results are as such:

2009 - 25th in country, 10th in SEC. However, it's important to note that 2/3 of that class was already committed prior to Mullen being named head coach. Not saying that he doesn't deserve credit, but he also doesn't deserve all of it.
2010 - 38th in country, 9th in SEC
2011 - 44th in country, 10th in SEC
2012 - As noted in the Chris Low article above, MSU is currently tied with UT for last in the conference with only 2 commits. The difference between MSU and UT being that both of UT's commitments are Top 150 players.

The most frustrating thing about all of this is no matter how badly we kick Ole Miss's ***, they continue to pull in Top 20 classes year after year. I'm really starting to wonder when we're going to see the staff's recruiting results turn the corner.

Most of our fan base thinks one decent season every 5 years is enough reason to get a top 10recruitingclass. Lets win 8 or 9 games for 3 years in a row and see what happens.

And you know exactly what I mean. If you want to compete with "recruiting rankings" you have to be somewhat unethical (think heppin' and $180,000). However, if you want sustained results you keep doing what we're doing by getting hard working guys and coaching them up.

1) Put together consective bowl seasons - one season of success could be viewed as a fluke to many.
2) Improve facilities - high profile recruits like high profile facilities (i.e. nice IPF's and a filled/loud stadium).
3) Ask fans to buy more Rivals subscriptions - guarantee that our classes never fall out of the Top 25 if our supporters purchased as many recruiting subscriptions as Alabama, UT, UGA, UF, LSU, etc. Not implying we recruit as well as the traditional powers but am implying that the recruiting class evaluators heavily cater to their revenue streams (as would I).

and hep some more. He's going to have to, basically, roll out the red carpet and start kissing their asses. Tell them whatever they want to hear and cater to their every need. In their minds they are already celebrities via an often faulty star-rating system and that's exactly what they want. I don't see Mullen doing that though.

Some shady **** will have to be done behind the scenes as well.

but dang, there is something inherently untrustworthy in a person with thin lips whose eyes dart around. (see the last 2 seconds of the commercial) *for all we know, maybe he was looking atDeLois Price in a nursing outfit? Just sayin....).

*big Mullen fan, don't hate.

The answer is to put some slick rick, see what I did there, person in charge of recruiting. Someone who is good and aggressive. Hand it over, relinquish full control of recruiting....JoeLee Dunn style. And if it gets deep, and things start to smell like poo poo....don't write any emails about it like Jim Tressell did.

If you combine top level talent with the superior coaching that is taking place, we will be hell to stop. Credit Mullen.

that he knows more about what will make a good college football player than people who have figured out a way to steal your money by arbitrarily assigning star ratings to 18 year olds.

Losing Diaz and Hudspeth killed our chances with the guys they were recruiting. Who just happened to be big name recruits. If Diaz stayed we would have gotten CJ which would have brought our ranking up like 10 spots alone.

Wilson appears to be the lead recruiter on a lot of talent this year. He better get a raise if we have a good defense this year.

And slinging some cash to 'recruiting services' wouldn't hurt either ala Oregon, LSU, etc...

MD leaving opened the door with CJ and the Rebs smelled blood and moved in for the kill. Had Diaz stayed at State Ole Miss doesn't make a play at CJ because hewasn'tgoing to waiver. I would bet a silver Range Rover on that.

an article came out the other day showing that bama and auburn spend thousands upon thousands per year on the same services (over $40K per year per school). <div>
</div><div>though i feel like the ncaa is about to crackdown on those "services".</div>

I think we're still hurting from the end of the Sherrill era in that respect. He had to be clean for a while, and then we were stuck with Croom. I feel that this final piece of our gameplan still needs some work.

But they did have back to back cotton bowl wins before they had a bad year.

Lets have another good year and then we can talk about what happens to recruiting with winning.

I hope this is not happening again already. I would at least like to go another few more months before the board switches to a "***** about recruiting" board again.

If we continue winning, the bigger stars will come, and they will play above expectation, too.

That said, I wish we could keep our recruiting staff stable. We definitely need recruiters here , who stay here.

The program is performing above expectation. Right? Recruiting will come At the moment, I know pitifully few players OM signed that I wish we had. Most of their guys are signand drop out candidates anyhow (exaggeration, but you know I'm right).

As far as Heppin goes, I like the kindof heppin that occurs on the practice field during two a days and in the strength and conditioning room.

Earn the anti-sunshine pumpers props? I asked a simple question. What is Mullen going to have to do to improve recruiting?

I have no idea about half of the **** you just spewed, but I have easily figured out that you are indeed one giant dick
