do you think they play better than last two games?

do you see a game that is decided solely in the trenches? potential low scoring or a shootout high scoring?

Bielema is gonna crowd the LOS and try to pressure Allar. It's going to allow for him to hit some quick stuff that will turn into big gains. I also predict Singleton will break at least 1 big run for a TD. This will be a game filled with explosive plays for PSU's offense. I don't expect to see a lot of long drives.

Penn State for some reason never matches up well with Illinois, even our 1994 team had issues with them, (though that was probably the best defensive team Illinois had ever put on the field in their history). Look for Brett to pull some shady or dirty plays because he was well-known for that while at Wisconsin, and a skunk doesn't change his smell, even when he moves to a different state and team.

Shady and dirty, but also tactically sound. That dude knows how to mess up a good team's game. This will be a test for the young QB to see if can work through some pressure and thread some tight windows. As noted above I don't expect long drives or consistent success running the ball.

I want revenge.

I have this feeling that I'm going to be frustrated watching them regularly gain yardage on the ground on our D.

But it won't ultimately matter. We'll stop them enough and make enough big plays to win "comfortably".

I just dialed up the '21 game. After the first quarter +, how the heck did we not blow them out of the stadium. That loss was a crime.
Wouldn't be surprised if he does this again. If they have the size mismatch up front I would expect them to try and pound it down our throats and prove we can stop the run.

They kept running the same couple of plays over and over and over and we never adjusted. Or we didn’t have the players capable of making the adjustment. Anyway it was nauseating to watch.
Bingo. They went goal line in the middle of the field a few times and we were still in a base defense. That’s on Pry.

They’ve lost like 45 players from two years ago. Predict a frustrating win.

PSU's vulnerabilities are defending against the inside run against teams with large OL's and intermediate passes in the middle of the field.

I see this as one of those old Iowa games. Honestly, that's not even really the offense Illinois runs this year, they are trying to be more spread and dynamic in the passing game, but I think Bielema tries to just make it all mucked up. They'll be a heavy dose of running the ball, no chance they want to allow for quick 3 and outs and our offense with more possessions than necessary. I think they'll go jumbo sets and try to bully us on 4th and short anywhere past their 40 yard line. They won't be in a hurry offensively. It's like the Iowa gameplan....chew clock, punts are okay, hope the game is decided by turnovers, penalties, and maybe 3 plays that swing the game, ILL wins two of them. Even though they arent really constructed to play that sort of game like they were 2 years ago, I think it's their only chance at a W.

if that is the style it will be how we match up at the LOS = our OL vs their DL and vice versa. before the season, that matchup looked tough for us, but somehow they have not looked as good as expected in the first two games. My guess is they do play better vs us.

If we big play them and our OFF can spread them out, we can counter this LOS type game.

The same as anyone would play PSU at this stage of 2023. Crowd the LOS and force PSU to beat you thru the air. On offense, pound the rock as hope it works and keeps the ball away from PSU offense and shortens the game.

That said, I think this team has much more weaponry and can run the ball well. I don't see how this PSU team doesn't win this game, but stranger things have happened.

And for all the kvetching about Illinois and Bert ramming the ball down our throats in 2021, that exhausted and maligned defense still only gave up 10 points. That loss was on the O.

We’ve played them three times since 2016 and blew them out twice.
