What would making the NIT in Year 10 mean for Frank?

IF we should miss out on the NCAAT, what significance would there be to an NIT berth in Year #10 of Frank's tenure? Considering it would end a 4-year post-season drought, is that a sign of progress? Enough progress? Is it alarming that making the NIT in Year 10 of a coach's tenure is a sign of progress? If we either don't make the post-season at all or if we make the NCAAT, then Ray's decision is easy. Does it get a bit murky if we make the NIT?

Beat MSU.

If he lands GG, he stays... no question. I know people don't want to hear that, but players change programs more often than coaches do.
Not sure one player is going to change the program. Look at
I never support the NIT. It's a meaningless tournament. I think it's uselessness is only compounded when it's used as justification for retaining an underperforming coach.
I hope I'm wrong but I think Frank is going to do just enough to keep his job, regardless if we make a tournament.

Going to attend tonight's game to pull for the players of course. Court Frank can move on as far as I am concerned. I think he's basically doing triage on a program he has mired in mediocrity. We've paid him about 30 Million and we keep him because people like offcourt Frank. People liked Sparky, and Brad, and Odom too.

This is a business. It's a reality, when people don't perform, they get fired. The Frank bots have essentially redefined what success means so they can keep him. And Ray can't touch him because they are there for the same reason, Championship runs like we have never had in their sports. Years ago.

We will live in the past in basketball. It's not much of a past, and it's the standard for the future for a lot of people. So be it.

Spot on. I don't know what the business world equivalent would be of making the NIT, but you'd probably get fired for it.

To me it is all about continuity. Will making the NIT allows us to bring back the majority of our players? I'd love to see Stevenson back. With the players we have coming in, and being able to build upon our chemistry with postseason play, I believe provides us a realistic opportunity of cementing some long term consistent success.
I have been flip flop on Frank, just from his style at times. But who would we get? How many times have replaced coaches in basketball? Not that I admire mediocrity, but we have to recognize how tough of a job it is here. Everything Frank was up against in recruiting. If we were to stick with a coach, we could do a lot worse than Frank. He has so many intangibles of a great coach.
It is all about continuity and culture change. I believe that culture change in regards to basketball is much tougher than football, when considering the SEC isn't the premier conference, and the lure of the blue bloods that border us. But those aspects are changing and could really provide the opportunity for Frank to turn that corner. Just my opinion.

And I hate it.
I understand. It’s old thinking. The rules allow one and doners so if we want to win like the big boys, we need to play the best regardless of how long they may stay in school. (I’m old so I also hate it too.)

I'm not advocating non-conformity, but I hate it. Colleges have sold their souls in the name of varsity intercollegiate athletics. I hate it. When I went to school I had classes with some of the athletes - and saw some others going to class. They weren't just freshmen and sophomores, either. At least people like me could identify with people like them to that extent. It meant something.

Community. I remember sitting down the row from Max Runager and watching him woo a young lady who was a friend of mine sitting next to me. Seems one of the wide receivers was on that row too. Theater and speech class....lol.

They were students. We all were students. That made them bigger than life to be students and be that good.

The guys now.....pretty much stopping by until they find an NIL or pro deal. It's not the same, but it is what it is.

Until the NCAA expanded the Dance well beyond 24 dancers, the NIT had prestige. Today, it's good for mid-majors mired in mid-majordom and P5 programs on the way up from mediocrity, not the goal of a P5 HC in his 10th season at said institution..

We're 1 superstar away from being a top-3 SEC team. Put a talent like GG on the team we ha e now and we would have been right in the thick of the SEC. We would likely be a top-4 seed in the NCAA tournament. Yes. One player could make that difference on this team.

The SEC has improved markedly this year, I think. I've heard media comments that seem to be saying that as well.

This is not what I think SHOULD happen but what I think WILL happen.

At this point, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, it looks like Frank will be back. 1 - we have a legit chance at the #1 player in the country. 2 - this team is coming together at the end and we might not have a ton of turnover like we have every year recently. We’ll have a nice class coming in combined with this team…next year the expectation really should be NCAA Tournament.

It's year 10. It ought to be that now.

Nobody mentions that Frank is out performing Brownell, who is far below this years expectation in a conference that's down. I'm sorry but I'm a Gamecock, have been since Frank Johnson and Warren Giese and if health allowed I would be there supporting these guys and Frank like I did for almost 40 years.

Most definitely. That aspect is changing. It wasn't too long ago, it was Kentucky and everybody else. If Kentucky had a bad year, that spelled doom for the SEC which cost us a bid or 3. We are entering a different era that should help Frank recruit and bring talent to the SEC.

And if it doesn't impact Frank positively, there should be no more forbearance.

Had a nice box seat for tonight's game. We played well, Miss State was terrible. Frank yelled unnecessarily, yanked players, and, in fairness, called a good defensive game. Miss State and their aging coach never adjusted. Had they made just 4 three pointers, they win. But they were truly bad tonight.

There simply were not many fans there. The interest in this program is virtually non existent save a bunch of sports board junkies who spend hours rationalizing we will never be better, so stay the same.

The program needs a jolt. Badly. I suspect we won't get it.
