What would making the NIT in Year 10 mean for Frank?

We're 1 superstar away from being a top-3 SEC team. Put a talent like GG on the team we ha e now and we would have been right in the thick of the SEC. We would likely be a top-4 seed in the NCAA tournament. Yes. One player could make that difference on this team.
Agree this year. What happens when half the roster turns over in the off-season and then we add GG? Frank's inability to hold on to players is and has always been an issue.

Maybe this off-season will be different. If he remains our coach, and he can keep the roster intact, and he can land GG, we have something. Even w/o GG, we have something if he can hold the roster together.

Personally, I think it's a very slim chance we land GG unless we come up with at least $1m in NIL dollars. I would go to the G league if I were in his shoes.

And if it doesn't impact Frank positively, there should be no more forbearance.
Can’t argue with that. He has certainly had a very long leash…
Which is exactly why I’d like to see some continuity. I’m not of the opinion we haven’t recruited well enough to win, but the higher than normal turnover from guys you want and depend on being upperclassmen leaders has been a major detriment. And that is attributable to the head coach.

It seems like I hear this same argument EVERY YEAR. Frank has to go, point blank

If GG doesn't reclassify, when's the earliest he could actually sign here (assuming he spurns UNCarolina, which I still doubt)?

If it's not until next year, then even a verbal commitment shouldn't be enough to keep Frank. An awful lot can happen in a year's time.

As to the OP, Dance or be gone.

I never support the NIT. It's a meaningless tournament. I think it's uselessness is only compounded when it's used as justification for retaining an underperforming coach.
Years ago when only one team per conference made it to the tournament being selected for the NIT meant something. Now with 64 teams and the playin games the NIT might as well be canceled. If you aren't good enough to go to the big dance you shouldn't be rewarded with post season play.

Any such team should be utterly finished. It's the Gasparilla Bowl of college basketball.

I disagree. That’d be like cancelling the mid & early December bowls.

In both cases your rewarding mediocre teams but with football at least there is a true benefit for playing in a bowl game. The extra 12-15 practices allow football coaches to evaluate the progress of younger players. Those evaluations are even more important because of the transfer portal...where do we need immediate help.

The NIT just extends the season with a few more meaningless games. Because of the much smaller rosters in basketball the coaches are getting to evaluate all of the players day to day.

Adamantly disagree. I enjoy college football.
I love it too - but part of what I love is atmosphere. Secondary and tertiary bowls don't deliver that for me. I am glad we just won a tertiary bowl. That much I will admit. But I can't watch them when I don't have a dog in the hunt. But football aside, the other poster is correct. The NIT has lost most of its steam in the wake of a 68-team NCAA Tournament.

IF we should miss out on the NCAAT, what significance would there be to an NIT berth in Year #10 of Frank's tenure? Considering it would end a 4-year post-season drought, is that a sign of progress? Enough progress? Is it alarming that making the NIT in Year 10 of a coach's tenure is a sign of progress? If we either don't make the post-season at all or if we make the NCAAT, then Ray's decision is easy. Does it get a bit murky if we make the NIT?

Beat MSU.

That seems to be a big stretch. They will probably lose at least 4 players.

Tanner doesn't have the stomach to fire Frank and look for a better baseball coach to take us to the NCAA every year, besides.... Frank has a winning season and will play in the NIT... I would be surprise if we make the NCAA, but anything could happen...

i.e., Tanner doesn't have the stomach to stand up to the power brokers?

Don’t know what it’ll mean for Frank. Don’t really care about the faux excitement by a multi millionaire who is average at best. For me, I’ve already checked out. Making a meaningless tourney will only confirm my decision to quit supporting a sh*t product.

I can't believe GC fans still say "wait til next year". FM needs to be gone regardless if he makes the tournament. He did absolutely nothing with the FF run and he will do nothing even if he manages to win a tournament game.
He coasted on that FF4 run and has been treading water since. What more proof do we need that he isn't the man for the job?
Odom coached only 7 years at USC.
Seemed like 20. It almost took torches and pitchforks to get rid of Odom. Looks like history is gonna....................

I said OH NO! when it was annouced he was gonna be hired and WF srudents cheered. It was a typical RT move by a non-RT AD.

Frank is such a difficult discussion because he is a very good coach at the core. IMO, it's impressive that the group we have could possibly make the post season.

The other side of the coin is that were probably going to continue get recruits and performances like this under Frank until he's gone. Plus, his courtside behavior is terrible and it's been 10 long years.

I suppose every team wants to be in the NCAAT. But the NIT is still a very good tournament with lots of good teams in it. Making the NIT is nothing to be ashamed of. The NCAA could fix things by expanding the NCAAT. Expanding the NCAAT to 96 teams is very doable.

I’m sorry, I like having a competitive team, and a coach who is one of the most well respected coaches in the country, and a chance to land the #1 recruit in the country. What more proof do I need that you have absolutely no clue?

You do realize that the top 65 teams are not picked to go to the tournament, and the mid majors get automatic bids right? Tell me you understand that?
I understand that. Do you understand the goal is the make the Field so that you have a shot? Tell me you understand that. Frank can’t even accomplish that.

65 coaches regularly exceed Frank’s accomplishments each year. Why do certain fans still claim he is such a good coach?

He's a good Xs and Os coach. Unfortunately, that's where it ends. Combine Muschamp's off-field effort with Frank's on-court effort and you might have something.
