1. Women's softball

2. National Spelling B

what a great day in TV. makes you wonder if any men's college sports, lets say in postseason play, was going on today.

i am going to have to go with women's softball for the simple fact that there is a chance to see the lone hot chick on the team pull her spandex softball pants out of her mooseknuckle.

the spelling bee creeps me out, bunch of freaks.

I actually caught myself watching a couple innings of softball the other day when Arizona was in the super regional.

I hate that political correctness is being shoved down my throat by ESPN and the NCAA. Just because it's on ESPN, doesn't mean that I'm going to watch it, and it sure as heck doesn't mean I'm going to think "Hey! These girls can play!", especially when it's the equivalent of watching a men's rec league.

How cool would today have been if ESPN treated today like March Madness? Cutting to one run games like Arkansas and Pepperdine, and talking about the teams that a lot of people may not know a lot about like New Orleans.

Ron Polk was right about baseball getting the shaft. And even though the SEC's proposal of 14 scholarships is nice, even that is still way too few. Baseball should have no less than 20 scholarships, and in my opinion should have 25. It is especially ridiculous when football teams are giving full scholarships to guys who are gunners on special teams for four years. Would it be too much to ask football to drop 10 scholarships down to 75 or something like that? Maybe that's where Polk went wrong. Instead of attacking the women's sports, he probably should have gone after football.

Having a daughter big in the sport probably sways my judgment a bit but I've gotten into the chick softball the past few years. I enjoy college sports more then pro sports anyway and if there isn't a baseball game on with teams I am interested in I'll watch the softball all day.

and I really wouldn't be surprised if more people wanted to watch the softball world series than baseball regionals. And if they don't, then ESPN probably thinks it's an investment and it will be more popular in a couple years, generating more money. Also, they put all their cameras at one field, have one team of announcers. Baseball they'd have to send 16 crews out.

that their football/basketball contracts have something to do with it as well. "You want to show SEC football at night? Well, OK, but you're going to have to show this women's crap as well or no deal."

So yes, you are right- it is all about money.

That still doesn't mean that I want to watch it. I bet if you took a poll, most people would probably rather watch the men play baseball than watch the best women's softball teams. The only way I would watch any of it is if State was in it, and even then I would only have a little bit of interest. If you have to convince me "that these girls can play", the reality is they probably suck.

I might be jaded, though- I've seen the US women's softball team play before, and I've seen some MLB teams play before. The best women in the world aren't even close to the M-Braves. Maybe I shouldn't expect them to be, but if I'm going to watch the best people in the world play something, I expect them to do so at a high level when I see them in person because TV isn't going to do them justice. I want to be entertained.

are so damn over-powering it just takes all the excitement out of the game. It wouldn`t be so bad if there was a little more action.

it's fast paced, and there are hot chicks (on the PAC-10 teams). I remember ESPNdawg telling us the costs of getting crews all over the country was pretty high. But softball is interesting to me, and I'm not a chick sport person, as I'd gouge my eyes out with a spork before i watched two minutes of chick basketball.

their game. I don't see how they could move the mound back, so maybe they can bring the fences in.

You hit on another problem with softball- not enough offense. It's all small ball- I don't see that they have another choice. It's always so predictable. Someone gets a single, bunt, bunt, and hope that the last person can drive them in.

I just don't want to watch it personally. I don't think looking at hot chicks make you any less of a man.

I have been all of my life

I hate to admit it but I love the Women's College World Series - I usually watch the whole thing from start to finish

However, I do agree that both ESPN and FSN should negotiate to air a couple of baseball regionals - in addition to the two regionals being broadcast by ESPNU

Softball gets better ratings on ESPN than college baseball has. Don't remember where I heard that, but it's gotta be true, because ESPN wouldn't show it over some of their other properties if it wasn't.
