They were the flavor of the month the last season. The talk of the town was all about playoff expansion and the imperative of giving G5 schools a seat at the table.

Now with expansion and super conferences, nobody seems to care about the Coastal Carolinas of the world.

Super conference formation will leave G5 schools in the dust.

G5 will be in the taillights of history. A new designation will be forthcoming.

That would be the lone silver lining to super conference formation.

A couple of things to unpack. 4 teams that were G5 (BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, UCF) will be P5 next year. As flux as the conference landscape is now
there may be several more movements and additions. Who knows ?
When the dust settles, although they will not be able to officially play for a NC, everyone knew there was very little chance that could happen in the present form so not much will change for their current situation.
They will still have their own conferences, and perhaps less chance to play OOC games. I can see their conferences forming an alliance to host their own playoffs and champions such as FCS teams do now.

The G5 group will still have their "space" as they always have. Fans of CCU, etc. will still be fans. Super conferences will end any chance those schools have
in play off consideration against the P5 members, but things could definitely morph into a play off of their own.
