What's your favorite Diner Food?

All this talk about Diners got me thinking about the food. What's your favorite thing to order from a Diner? Mine is either Hot Turkey or Hot Meatloaf open-faced sandwich with mashed potatoes and lots of gravy. Yum!

Love the hot ROAST BEEF sandwich (assuming it is actual roast beef) with fries and plenty of home made beef gravy over all of it.

It’s the stuff like their homemade gravy and coleslaw. That makes these diners great.

A "mess". All the breakfast items, onion,peppers, sausage, potatoes, etc, all mixed in with scrabbled eggs. Here is an example:

It once was a reuben with a side of large onion rings. Truly one of my all time favorites. During my 20’s and 30’s I could eat both without blinking an eye. Today I would need a case of Tums and a gallon of Brioschi.

Agree - nobody does scrapple like a diner. My choices:

Breakfast or Lunch: Creamed chipped beef on toast with home fries. Rice pudding (or bread pudding) with whipped cream topping, or maybe a slice of a lemon meringue pie, and of course coffee. Damn, I wish I could eat like that now!

Dinner Alternate: Fried oysters, cole slaw, French fries, or fried eggplant and stewed tomatoes (so many choices). That’s the problem with diners. Diet Pepsi to wash it down.

We did Tastee Diner in Bethesda last year when we were in town for a soccer tournament last year. It was fantastic.

That's a good choice. Mine would be Hot Roast Beef.

I go breakfast 90% of the time no matter what time of day. French Toast with corn beef hash, 2 fried eggs & hashbrowns... Unless they have a unique benedict. My favorite was a place south of Seattle which had lots of seafood options alaskan crab benedict, fresh or smoked salmon benedict, etc. Ate there every day before the US Open at Chambers Bay.

If you're ever in the Clearwater area stop for breakfast at Lenny's and get the Redneck Benedict. Biscuit, topped with sausage patties, topped with a scrambled egg, topped with sausage gravy. Heart attack on a plate. You also get a complimentary basket of pastry to munch on while waiting for your food.

The Cincy area has Goetta, which is their take on Panhaus with oatmeal being the main filler rather than buckwheat and corn meal.

+1. Eggs are, IMO, another good tell. Especially if you get poached or over easy.
