are new in the program. Whoever made the decision to move those guys in as starters late in the season gets some major credit, but.... Routt, Stratton and Jones were the starters this year, have beenunder Thompson's tutelage for at least 2 years...and have all gotten worse. As Shmuley says...let's see what they do after being under this guy for 2 years.

He is better than the last 2 guys, but Thompson couldn't tie McMahon' shoes. In fact, I would love fore Cohen to bring McMahon in for about 3 years with this crop of pitchers and the ones coming in.

I find it very impressive that Butch's ***** tits don't jiggle at all during his trips to the mound.

why we are in a regional in the first place with his outing against LSU. He's a head case, and he will be a head case in the pros as well. Routt is not quite 100%- and two of his losses have come to the same team- Arkansas. I think Routt will be fine next year because he will be healthy.

I do agree that Stratton has regressed, but I think he will be fine. By next year, he will have pretty much refined all of his pitches and he will have better control of them. He will also be even more mature as a pitcher, and he will probably quit trying to strike everyone out and let his defense work for him.

but if they all regress or don't improve next year, the common denominator will be Thompson. Arm injuries are a part of pitchers lives, so yeah, I know Routt has not been 100 %. But he has said himself he has been pitching with no pain since before Cohen put him back on the bump. If he regains his placement from last year, he can be tough.

I think Stratton's issue had been more to the nibbling approach rather than trying to strike guys out. And I believe the nibbling approach is a coaching decision. I will say that last year Stratton was very effective working down and got a lot of low strike calls and batters chasing, where guys seem to have been more patient on him this year.

because they are trying to strike the guy out because they are trying to get the guy to chase. So, I think we agree in general- Stratton is being too fine. Some of Stratton's location problems are because he is learning how to throw a cutter, which of course is a pitch with a lot of movement- I don't think he knows where that pitch is going all the time yet.

I don't think it's totally the coaches fault that he does that- all the coach is doing is calling a pitch and a location. But, I do think that it's the coaches responsibility to refine and get their thoughts under control.

What happens to most pitchers is they are used to blowing hitters away in high school and piliing up strike outs, and these high school coaches tell these pitchers a lot of times- "Hey, you're throwing 92 or whatever- and you have a great curveball- just go after people and blow them away . You can work on your change up at MSU". And lo and behold it works in high school. But when you pitch in the SEC, the hitters are just too good. And these pitchers have to learn a different mindset and way to pitch which can be very tough sometimes as far as teaching them.

Chris is only a sophomore- and he has a great work ethic- it really might be the best of anyone on the pitching staff. There are certainly some others like Caleb Reed that work hard as well. He's going to go to the Cape Cod League this summer- as is Routt- and that's going to really benefit both of them.
