He’s at the point that just about everyone will include him in the conversation. We all have bias based upon our formative years with Penn State and team success, but I believe ranked choice voting would put Dotson at the top.

He'll be a menace in the NFL with his hands. True inside outside WR. Seems to have been a great mentor to the WR corp. Our #2/3 guys are true sophomores.

He has to be towards the top, right? At least arguably the best hands I’ve seen at PSU. Today’s performance, was Allen Robinson-esque. He was the difference between a win and a loss.

Thoughts?
He's right there with the best of them

Engram is my GOAT but Dotson is right there - maybe just a step behind - closing fast.

After watching some of the B1G games the last few weeks, I've come to the conclusion the the conference is absolutely loaded with great WRs. I think Dotson will be the 1st one taken in the next NFL draft but realistically, that Bell kid from Purdue and those 2 OSU WRs could also - and probably will - go in the 1st round. That might be a first for any conference

I really like the WR from Arkansas, he is just so big and quick.. 6'4 like 235 and has good Hands.. NFL is going more towards Big WR league and that scares me Dotson. He may be drafted high, but he is what 5'10 180.. Guys like him seem to get knocked around a lot in the pros.

In terms of PSU, he is def top 5, probably behind Robinson, OJ, Engram, and Jackson. Maryland secondary is pretty poor. Didn't Ohio State have 3 -100 yard WR against them?

As good as Engram was in 94 and if you were in the stadium that day against Ohio St, you will never forget the catch he made against the Buckeyes. Defied description. But that was just the appetizer for the play next year against Sparty at the goal line. I can still remember thinking that is was impossible for him to score multiple times during that play. Somehow he managed to get in and to this day I still don’t understand it.

I think we all have the same guys on our list - Arob, Godwin, Butler, Bobby, & 5.

Not sure but I'd take Dotson over those OSU WRs any day. And yes, I know I'm biased, but Dotson gets an opposing team's full attention whereas they can't do that against OSU with them being stacked with WRs. And that Bell from Purdue is also just about uncoverable - he really looked great today against MSU in Purdue's upset

The goal line catch against sparty is the one of the most clutch catches I can remember for PSU. That's why I've got engram as tops but jahan is right there.

I’m not disagreeing with any of the names already mentioned, but as an older guy I have to add Jimmy Cefalo, who caught everything, made big plays, and was an excellent punt returner too. All in a different era for college football, and especially PSU.

Better than Devon Smith in my humble opinion. Devon Smith was fast, but had trouble staying upright.

This team would be truly lost without Dotson this year. His velcro hands are amazing. Considering his size his catch radius is oversized. He has made Clifford's accuracy numbers look much better than they really are. I saw Jackson, Engram, Robinson. Always thought Engram was most special and he was. Then I saw Robinson and he was to McGloin/Hack that Dotson is to Clifford. Dotson in my opinion is right there with those two.

Engram made those kinds of catches a lot during his career at PSU that is why I would have him #1.

Was thinking about this myself, he is right there, he reminds me so much of Engram. Kenny Jackson as talented as any, just didn't throw as much back then, they could actually run the ball at will. ;) Regardless, have enjoyed the hell out of watching him..

What makes Dotson so special, besides speed and great hands, is the way he attacks the ball.
PSU has had many receivers with great hands and speed, but didn't attack the way he does.

In the mix with Engram and Robinson for all time top three IMO. Will likely be drafted higher than both of them too.
Their is no way he is near the top. Oh my word. What about others not listed like jurevicous and Bryant Johnson. 2 all Americans that are not near the top. Moye and butler as well were good receivers.
Dotson needs to show up and be a difference maker against Michigan and msu if he is to be considered in top 5. Iowa and Illinois he was Mia. He did have catches against osu but their plan was to contain him and they did.

considering the cast around him, you can easily make the case that he is as good or better than anyone we have ever had

he has no complimentary running game to take the defense's attention off him and it's not Kerry Collins throwing him the ball

So here is my top.
engram all America
Jackson all America
Robinson all america
Mcduffie all america
Butler career yards
Bryant johnson
Godwin
Hamilton most career yards
Dotson 3 games left. Does he move up.
Jurevicious

We can’t discount past good and great players. The rpo these days and more games favors wr and qbs.

Don't be so tough on Moo Moo. During his days, they applied a thicker coat of paint to the yard lines.
I thought the original poster was talking about the Alabama receiver with the same name. The PSU Devon Smith was fast as heck but had terrible balance and was not NFL caliber IMO.

I also wouldn’t ignore surrounding cast either. How many of those other guys were our entire offense though? Only Bryant Johnson, and maybe ARob, on your list played on what I would consider a poor offense.

Also - only Engram and Butler are of similar stature. Clifford is hitting Dotson when he’s “Alabama wide open” because his route running is so filthy. These aren’t mcsorley jump balls he’s catching.

Lots to consider.
