At the Memorial for Coach Leach, Hal Mummy said to Leach, I got an opportunity to go to the Citadel (in the early 70’s) and be the head coach. Leach said, “Don’t do that. They play at soldier there. After (we went recruiting in) Key West, I have decided that I want to be a Pirate, not a soldier.” Mummy and Leach went to Valdosta State, much closer to Key West than Iowa Wesleyan.

I’m in St Augustine tonight and there was some type of Pirate themed Bar Crawl - mostly women dressed as Pirates drinking (some hot and heavily) but it made me think of ML and how he probably would have liked that and even joined in.
I did. Can’t remember or link where but do remember reading something along those lines. Which, as everyone here has said, makes all the sense in the world.
