And before this year started most red sox fans wanted him gone. I think for the most part they thought Bard was their closer of the future, and they couldn't get Papelbon out of there fast enough. He is off to a good start this season though

in a Red Sox uniform as long as possible. But we all know how quick they can turn on you so who knows? Hopefully he'll keep em happy the rest of the year.

Of course, I'd rather see Albert Pujols in a Cardinals uniform next year, and if that means not being able to afford Papelbon, that's fine with me.

I think what happens to a lot of players as they get older, some of them don't work out and put as much into their game and staying in shape as they should, and they have a down year. Some guys never get it back, and some turn their work up a notch- like Papelbon. The older they get, the more work that they have to put in to stay in shape. And then after 36, it all goes downhill anyway.

He's pitching great this year, and Bard is not pitching well at all. I bet they sign him for one more year.

...after this season if I recall correctly. He'll most likely want a multiyear deal with whatever team signs him.

Because a few ***** on a message board doesn't mean most. That would be like saying most State fans want Cohen fired because of the limited sample of idiots on this board. I am a Red Sox fan, and while extremely frustrated with him last year, I never wabted him gone.

By looking at their message board, and listening to MLB radio and mad dog radio during the day most Sox fans that called in wanted him gone and thought Bard should be closing. Hell, you go over to their board now, and a lot of them thi he is pitching this way due to his contract year, and will not be this good the next few years. He didn't get the nickname "dibaclebon" in Boston for nothing over the last few years
