Man I hate to see it. He's dang good and tough. We have a crowded room at WR. Seems like when a new coach comes in there has to be personnel changes. He probably felt like an odd man out since Lebby didn't recruit him. Seems like I dislike modern sports a little more everyday.

This honestly might do it for me. This really isnt fun anymore. In the past i would have been livid we were this terrible and Ole miss was this good. I honestly don’t care. This is just idiotic.

Even if state got a donation of epic proportions and went out and bought the best team ever for next year, who cares? It would honestly feel empty. I really dont like this at all.

The only response is to cancel your TV subscriptions. Nothing else will matter.

Or don't watch. They count the people that watch the TV ads. Advertisers won't pay low numbers.

Yeah. I don’t think I’ll ever care about Mississippi State football like I once did. I already don’t care about the rest of college football. But really, it’s not like this makes a difference. It’s not like we ever used him like we should have anyway.

GIVE US MoRe! Hell no! This is one of many reasons why. They just want even more and have no loyalty to the school they come play for and signed up for. Give me the NFL all day over this crap that has happened to college football. When fans stop showing up and stop watching there will be no money except the biggest schools and then they will have their super league of football.

I'll go ahead and mention that a white WR quits when the white QB is out for the season, replaced by a black QB. Purely speculation but someone somewhere will bring it up at some point. Birds of a feather quit together, stay together. I've seen it before on teams I've played on many years ago.

Don’t go there. Just don’t.

I think he sees the writing on the wall with Craver taking his playing time.

I don’t even blame the players. I mean, we can harp about loyalty to teammates, but the design is flawed and the incentives are wrong. We’re getting what the current system is designed to deliver.
I don't blame them for playing the sytem either. However, my biggest concern was just other teams poaching players. Now, we have players quitting, not even in the middle of the season. Wow. 17 it all.

So redshirts are now a last resort now to preserve a year of eligibility. Imagine the phone calls happening tonight and tomorrow before the 5th game. Isn't that when you have to quit by?

What am I missing from this list
  • Ain't paying enough
  • Ain't playing enough
  • Don't vibe with the team (for WHATEVER reason)
  • Provided girlfriend broke up with me
  • Don't like my roommate anymore
  • Coach at another school called and made big promises
  • New girlfriend at new school
  • Family misses me or got paid to get me to redshirt

Contracts are coming next season. Bet on it. Once there are contracts, there will be limits instead of verbal promises. Salary caps will soon follow. And then thank God, the draft should happen - players will get to match with up to 10 schools that can then draft them. I guess we will see a franchise tag in college football next.

Until then, respect their decision and do not slander these young men. They have (cut and paste) decided to open up their wallets recruiting again. Need to feel loved and appreciated.

I guess my question is how does it align with the scholarship money and academic eligibility? Seems like the easy way to police this would be to eliminate these kids from being eligible at the next stop, or at least forcing them to pay tuition for the full semester and revoking their scholarship.

Example - athletic scholarship requires full participation for each calendar year, or until graduation….whichever comes sooner. If you quit outside of the designated transfer portal windows, scholarship is revoked and all tuition for at least the previous calendar year must be repaid. Or, scholarship athletes are not granted an early academic withdrawal date. If they enroll at all, they must finish the semester. If they do not, they fail all coursework, and are automatically ineligible at the next stop. So, if someone wants to quit midseason but still retain eligibility, they gotta pay their own way for at least the current and previous semester, and they have to stay enrolled as full time students and pass their classes.

Greg Byrne was no different. Left MSU to go back to Arizona in order to be close to aging parents and/or other family....or something like that. Then a year or two later returns to the Tuscaloosa football powerhouse 90 miles to the east of us. Pure greed always wins.
