I saw a social media post about retiring numbers for Lamar Stevens and John Harrar. I am opposed to retiring numbers, but do appreciate the concept of recognizing the names of players and coaches who had an extraordinary impact to the men’s basketball team. That said, I’m not sure I could name all of the deserving parties. Not a Mount Rushmore, limited to just 4 or five names… although maybe only four or five are worthy?

I wasn’t born yet, but Jesse Arnelle certainly needs to be on the list. Anyone before him of note? Although I never saw them play, what about Bob Wess or Ron Bown? i started following Penn State basketball in the Parkhill days, but am not sure whether Freddie Barnes or Money Brown deserve to be on the list. I’d say Joe Crispin and Taylor Battle should be included.

who is on your list of penn state men’s basketball honorees?

Shouldn't "ring of honor" BB players have been on a team that actually won something? That limits the candidates significantly....

Not necessarily. Dos that mean that only super bowl winners make it to the NFL HOF? Certainly it’s easier to pick out those who led their team to championships but not everyone has the supporting cast. Many Penn State fans would put Mike Mauti and Mike Zordich on the ring of honor and not for the ion field success.

I don't think a 'Ring of Honor' is in PSU's aura. However, my pick for the best all around player during my purview is still Titus Ivory.

Winning "something" does not have to mean winning the Super Bowl. Just like a college BB team that actually is the best team in an era for their school might not have even won a conference championship. But putting players in a true "ring of honor" would be better off being limited to players that either had pretty spectacular statistics or those that led their teams to some significant accomplishments such as an NIT championship, the highest finish in the B10 for PSU (since PSU has never won the B10 in the reg. season or tourney), IMHO......

It really is a limited field at this point. I'm all for it though, as PSU has to start somewhere and now seems to have a coach that may just get something started......

So you only have Jesse Arnelle in your ring of honor?

Zordich played as a true freshman on the '82 championship team.

Never heard of them (seriously). Can you give me the low down?

Donato was a guard with Weiss. He went on to be a highly regarded basketball official. He refereed a national championship game.
